you can do it without the phone as modem plan. just get the $15 vision plan, and do this:

menu
settings
display
0

you will be presented with a box labeled "field serv" in that box, type in 040793. click ok.

in the following menu, go to "toggle NAI", and turn off the modem NAI. you can now use the phone as a modem without the pam plan.

also, if you are in an evdo area, you may want to change the setting called DDTM, which allows voice calls to interrupt your data session. this only works in evdo coverage, but by roughly october, everywhere will have evdo.

side note:

if 040793 doesnt work, then the phone wants your MSL. to get this, call tech support and simply say, "i cant make calls. it says my account cannot be validated." they will want to program your phone, and will instruct you to type in ##xxxxxx#. that 6 digit number is your MSL. simply hang up on them after writing it down.

this is possible on all evdo samsung devices.

yes, technically, it is possible for sprint to find out that you are doing this. no, i have NEVER heard of anyone actually getting caught, besides in forums, and the stories all sound like BS.
