Using the phone-as-modem is an extra service with requires an agreement of 2 years just on that service so I don't recommend it. There's a few problems with phone as a modem. 1. You can't make or recieve calls while it's connected to phone-as-modem. 2. It drains you battery 3. You can't plug in your phone to a charger when using it as a modem (a select few phones excluded) I recommend looking into the Sprint air cards. Speeds are the best in the industry and coverage is unmatched.
There really isn't a way to use phone-as-modem without the service itself because the phone wont be enabled for it. As far as sending faxes, there's no way that i've heard of to be able to do that. There might be a third party program out there but nothing that i've come across.
