Very Dissapointed in WM 5.0 for Smartphones

I just got the DASH yesterday and I can't beleive how little it can do, and it's all because of the OS! Why didn't Tmobile/HTC give this phone the Pocket PC version?? Other than the start button, there's almost nothing windows about it.

This phone could have been much better. Is there a way to get Windows Mobile for PocketPC's put on my phone??

Same exact feeling here. What advantage do we get with the phone being Windows Mobile, except for the ease of syncing? It's a shame too since it has a full keyboard on there.

it is lighter and slimmer than window pocket pcs. the os is similiar to that of blackberrys. do your homework before picking up a new device. 👿

Agree with Brademcee! Smartphone wasn't just released yesterday. It's been around for a while and doing just the tiniest bit of research on a purchase such as this would save you from having to return the device and coming here to bi*ch about it. Nothing yanks my chain like the technically challenged complainting about software "limitations". 🙄

What DOESN'T this thing do that you'd want it to do? I'm not sure I understand the problem with it?

I think people are P.O'd because the Dash doesn't have Word or Excel files similar to pocket pc's on it. As if anyone actually edits Word files on phones like this. Quit complaining and get a Blackberry if that's your issue. I think the phone is ok. Wifi, nice screen, good call quality and relatively easy to use.

i agree and because of the os system with wm 5 it makes it so much easier to put music in the library.....literally i put 100 songs on my card in 10 min through the direct sync...cant do that with other smartphones like that.

word....its a smartphone, not a ppc....and evilhomer is right...this thing called "reading" helps out so much and you obviously have the inet so use it search about this phone and other smartphones. Since you hate it so much, take it back and get a ppc.

This phone is designed for business users. If your company is on an Exchange server, then this is an awesome device. I have owned over 60 phones since 1994 and this is one of the best. WM5 isn't perfect, but is better than the other offerings out there. Oh, and by the way... If you were looking for a Pocket PC version, then why didn't you buy the MDA? Start button... Newbies crack me up.

lol seriously...i have a dell axim and hate the pocket pc version its slow and rediculously pointless. id much rather have the simplicity in the smartphone version. Yes id have to agree there are more downloads available for the Pocket PC....but the smartphone editions are on the rise passing up the pocket pc's and they will be available in no time

WOW! I made my above post and then quickly got many mad replies as to my negative remarks. I'm wondering if HTC actually had employees log in to give their opinion. People were honestly flaming me for giving it a bad review. One person said it was unfair and that I should list pros and cons so here you are... hopefully I can clear up my summary:

Pros:
1. Phone seems sturdy, well made
2. Very Nice look
3. Fast smooth operation
4. Clear sound
5. Very good email functionality

Cons:
1. Cheap rubber coating.

Urgh....I'll do this reply quickly.

(1) Your pros and cons have nothing to do with your original grievances.

(2) "I'm wondering if HTC actually had employees log in to give their opinion."
--> Logically Fallacy- You are greatly overestimating your importance.

Your opinion = You < Naught
....in the eyes of HTC, of course.

Yes, I do understand this is a bit harsh but 'twas fun for me and don't take it personally, and if you do so be it!
