Reception

I saw one of these in a Verizon store and noticed it is getting 2 bars, while my E815 was getting 5 bars. How is the reception?

I think just like everything else, the Verizon UI has changed the way the RSSI bars are displayed versus what the old MOT UI phones did. My phone gets great reception at my house where I used to drop calls all the time with other Mot's and LG's. I haven't used this phone enough to draw any real conclusions, but from what I've seen the RF is excellent.

I upgraded from an 815 and the reception is NOT as good as the 815. I have tested this in several fringe areas where no other phone but my 815 would work and the maxx has no signal or not enough to make a call. I am not pleased with this at all. Already have another on the way to compare. If same results, back to the 815. 815 was the best reception phone I have ever experienced.

The E815 is the best reception phone Verizon EVER HAD (with the exception of the V710 which was essentially the same phone). PERIOD. Sadly, ANY phone you switch to will be a downgrade since you're comparing it to the best. If you want to switch phones, you're going to have to make a sacrifice. Because of this, we get lousy reception, text messaging lag and OS freezing. Just take a look at the GSM phone crowd. There's a bunch of people that couldn't care less about network quality and just want "a cool phone" to make a statement.

That being...

Actually, the Nokia 3589i had better reception. 😈

Well...I can say for sure it had better reception in my house!

...(not nearly as good of voice quality, though...)

And before that there was some sort of Pantech or toshiba or something that was a flip phone, but didn't even have gps, that I heard was phenomenal to...

Learned something yesterday about the Maxx. Like the RAZR, the antenna is at the bottom below the keypad. Don't hold the phone by the bottom, hold like an old v60 by the hinge and a finger on the top back. Now comparing reception to my E815, the Maxx does much better. Still not an E815, but close.
