Yes, they do. There are various settings for the long, blue lights (pulsate, rythmic, etc.), and they are a nice touch.

No butchery there.

My impression of the alert lights was that they were very dim. I had to hold the phone in a dark closet to even see them working. They weren't nearly as bright as the touch sensitive music buttons on the front. Any one else agree/disagree?

Well, they're not blindingly brilliant, but I wouldn't want them to be. And you can change the settings. Play around with it--you'll like it.

As far as I could see you can change the way they blink, but not the brightness. Am I missing something there? I just feel they are really, really dim. I'm not saying it's necessarily good or bad, but they are what they are. Dim. I feel they could have at least made them as bright as the music control lights. I literally couldn't even see them blinking when I was inside my apartment during the day.

The music key lights are LEDs, I think, while the side strips are EL.

LEDs will almost always be brighter for tiny spots, but EL provides a more even light over a large area.
