Verizon UI

I hate the Verizon UI. I currently have a Motorola E815 and I love the UI. I expect the Ve to have the standard Verizon UI is this true? Do they at least have different themes to get away from the ugly red standard? Have there been any improvements over the past few years? The UI is may be enough to get me to switch carriers.

I got this phone 2 days ago. Unfortunately, it only has the verizon ui. I left a review on it. Other than the vzw ui, it is a top notch phone. Everything on it works the way it should.

Do they at least provide a way to change the hideous red bars on the top and bottom? People need to start calling verizon and sending emails or letters requesting a decent UI.

When you say everything works as it should what about the buttons? Do they "feel" right when you text or do you find yourself double checking to make sure the phone was accurate in you inputs?

A couple of years ago I switched one of three phone lines away from Verizon because of the ugly and non-intuitive UI. I thought I would check out the V3 maxx since the GSM version of the phone has interested me for quite some time (why must it take so long for a phone to reach market?). Unfortunately, the UI is still just as poor and ugly but there seems to have been some very minor improvements over the older verizon UI's I played with. I would still much rather have the standard Moto UI. Looks like I'll be switching the other two verizon lines to another carrier next month when my contract is up.

I agree. As good as the network is, I just don't think I can take the ui. Can anyone tell me if the Verizon UI allows you to set different ringtones for different contacts or groups? What about mp3 tones? And does it allow you to lock the phone and require a password before it can be used again?

On my Razr Maxx i can set a different ringtone for every contact in my list, not sure about the groups though. And yeah i can lock my phone and put in a password in order to use it again. I don't think its the UI that alows that though .. i have heard some phones you can set ringtones to contacts and some you can't... i think it all depends what the phones features are to start with. If that phon...

I really don't get how people can get excited about any new VZW phone, be it the Maxx VE, or anything else. Since VZW decides to have the SAME stupid UI on all their phones, it really doesn't matter which phone one gets from vzw, they all operate exactly the same since they all have the same UI.... So honestly, why spend $200 on a Maxx VE, when a $25 LG will do the exact same thing and operate in the exact same way... Maybe a fraction of a second slower... Who cares... It's basically like if Ford would decide to put Focus engines in all their cars, including their flagship Ford GT, so that the mechanics would only have to learn on engine to service. No one in their right might would spend the money on the GT if all it had was the Focus engin...

Put me down as recently disgusted.

They force me to pay $20/mo to transfer my calendar from my pc w/ get it now but wait, we don't have get it now on our newest phones yet...a waste of my time educating their sales rep.

The honeymoon is over for me.

I agree as well. In fact, if I had not been able to flash my phone v3m to an Alltel flash to rid it of this VZW UI, it would have benn bye=bye long ago.

I will be moving to another carrier at my contract end.

As for VZW UI, as much as I hate to say it, it looks like it is here to stay.

1. VZW wants to hire only the least trained and cheapoest labor they can to be CSRs.
(Why anyone would ever call a CSR and ask for help with their phone is beyond me. THAT IS WHAT THE OWNER'S MANUAL IS FOR!!!!)

2. Most common VZW users actually like the UI. It is simple to use and that is why they like it. It's the dumbbing of america.

You nailed it perfectly! They should have had shown the people in the movie "Idiocracy" using verizon phones with the stupid UI, it would have fit perfectly with the theme: "dumbing of America."

And as for the other point, I have been trying to figure out myself from the conception of this hideous UI, why people would bother or even get excited about new phones coming out, when they all look the same?!?!

Before I went to vzw I would have agreed... but I started with a "V" (vx9800) and hated the red bars and the same os everyone else had.

Then I went to a smartphone and added on another line for my chocolate. The smartphone has no sign of being a verizon phone (other than the logo, thanks to some registry edits) and the chocolate had 2 totally different flash-based menu options... as well as an option to choose 6 different colored bars on the top and bottom.

Also, one of my roommates has the enV (vx9900) and it doesn't even have an option for red bars. It's black or blue and the menu has been replaced with attractive icons that none of the other vzw phones have.

Bottom line, Verizon is improving the OS (and making changes to each i...

I agree! I also like tie verizon OS. I have had many phones in my time and i like the OS on my Razr Maxx. Its very easy to use, Besides i bought the phone to talk on... it does that excellent and thats all that matters to me. The extras are just a bonus for me to play with.

Honestly, I couldnt agree more... i have been mtm on my 815 for this exact reason. My problem, like many others, is that EVERYONE I talk to has verizon. I can use something like 4000 minutes a month and not go over my bill.

As for the interface....its crap... I have had moto phones since the v60 for a reason. I love them and the interface... Now, there is some hope, on some of the LG and Samsung handsets there is a'newer' version of the verizon UI that does allow you to change the colors. I almost shat myself when I saw that the BRAND NEW MaxxVE didnt have that newer version. Oh well...

and good analogy....I should just get a cheap LG and be done with it.....

Well, a word of dissent. I have the Samsung u740 with Verizon and the interface seems very good to me with several different formats available. It has 4 different dialing texts that are just great and the other phone features are too numerous to mention. There is certainly a basic similarity in the UI but, I like not having to learn a new route to get to what I want.

You people who switched from Verizon because you don't like there UI WHY DO YOU COMPLAIN about it? You already switched carriers. Everyone has there own opinion if they like it or not. I have been with Verizon since 1992, I have never had any major issues. I for one like the idea of having the same UI on all brands of phones. I have the family share plan with 4 phones in my plan. Everyone has a different phone. When one of them hands me there phone i don't have to sit there and figure out there menu. When i want to find something i know exactly where to go. Saves me time and the trouble of figuring out different menu's. If Verizon has disabled some features with there UI then they figured that option wasn't nessasary to operate the phone. Yo...

They do offer people options. many types of service plans, phones, features, and more. Just because Verizon puts on there UI isn't gonna make you loose a call, or heaven forbid that valuable Text message you are expecting. The importance in my service is the reception and service i receive for a phone call. I get both excellent reception and service with Verizon and thats more important to me then anything. I also love the UI Verizon has. It makes it easy for me when I'm using other phones besides my own for navigating through the menu. Again MY Opinion vs yours. NO...

"They do offer people options. many types of service plans, phones, features, and more."

They do offer options for plans and many types of phones, but not really anything others don't offer. You like the UI great, but why not offer some phones with the Verizon UI and some without. Or better yet, support RUIM, which is SIM card like technology for CDMA. That will give us the option of buying unlocked phones. When it is released I am going to take a long look at the V9, not V9m. It runs the synergy interface I know and love from my E815 and before. Verizon willing be losing a 10 year customer that has a family talk plan, all because that don't want to support multiple interfaces.
