CDMA is a superior technology to GSM. It takes just a couple more millimeters under the hood to function though. CDMA is also more of a battery hog, so that extra thickness may be all battery.

I would like to know more on why you think CDMA is superior to GSM. I sell Verizon and I can assure you that the whole world uses GSM because it is a better and more modernized cell service. The US may have better CDMA coverage than GSM but that doesn't make it a better technology. ๐Ÿคฃ ESN numbers vs. Sim Cards come on that's all of it right there!! Sprint had warped your mind! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Comparison of mobile phone standards
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

GSM and CDMA are the two most prevalent mobile communication technologies. Both technologies have the same goal: to divide the finite RF spectrum between multiple users.

GSM (Time Division Multiple Access - underlying technology used in GSM) does it by chopping up the channel into sequential time slices. Each user of the channel takes turns to transmit and receive signals. In reality, only one person is actually using the channel at a specific moment. This is analogous to time-sharing on a large computer server.

CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) on the other hand, uses special digital modulation Spread Spectrum which spreads t...

Kudos sprintpcsguy, I didn't think anyone else out here cared about the technical stuff.

As a side note, from what I've seen it seems that cdma phones can get away with emitting less radiation due to the lower power requirement -- which means less brain frying for me!

here it is, from this website:

CDMA

Code-Division Multiple Access.

CDMA is a digital wireless technology. It is a general type of technology, implemented in many specific technologies. But the term "CDMA" is also commonly used to refer to one specific family of technologies (IS-95 and CDMA2000) that competes with technologies such as GSM.

CDMA is a "spread spectrum" technology, which means that it spreads the information contained in a particular signal of interest over a much greater bandwidth than the original signal.

Unlike many competing technologies, CDMA has no hard limit for the number of users who may share one base station (tower). Instead, with CDMA,...

Just because everybody uses it doesn't mean it's the best.

Most of the world uses deisel fueled cars, or small gasoline fueled "econoboxes" with a slight advantage of fuel economy and mostly a disadvantage of acceleration and/or performance. Most american muscle cars or SUV's are big bore and high output at the expense of economy.

This is similar to GSM vs. CDMA.
GSM is like a diesel car or econobox; in the US it's not as efficient as CDMA (cdma has better overall voice quality) but uses a thinner chip and antenna. More of the world uses it though.
CDMA is like the american muscle car or suv; not world renowned, but better performing. However, you lose some battery life, and sacrifice with a slightly thicker unit, while gaining mor...

I didn't say a G** D*** word about myself. (By the way, even though you are right, I am glad you assumed my gender.) I just used a similar situation to explain about the differences and similarities about two things. This has been happening throughout time. Some call them parables (when animals with human qualities are involved) or similes (when used with like or as.)
Just because I back up anything I say with fact does not mean I think a lot of myself.
It means I actually know what I am talking about.
However, I do think an awful lot of myself. I feel that I am educated about the things I am opined to say. I'm not always right, but when I'm not, I accept it, learn about why I was wrong, and move on.

yea ill have to agree with rosa .... no phone should affect your stereo equiment... unless you are throwing the phone against your speakers as hard as you can.... cell phones use low frequencies that will never affect your car or home stereos.... im not too sure you know what you are talking about

i agree that cdma is superior to gsm because the cdma network has a soft handoff between towers (well atleast the 1900 frequency does) ... whereas gsm uses a hard handoff which results in more dropped calls and disconections between callers.. the only reason that gsm may be better is because they offer more world phones... and the thing about sim cards are that while they are easier to transfer phone books, they also result in more phones stolen because all you have to do is swap sim cards and WALA!!! YOU HAVE A BRAND NEW PHONE!!

Truly GSM is a superior standard!!!!!

That's the reason why more and more countries outside of the USA are activating CDMA systems!!!!!!!

Just in 2006 so far there have been at least 5 or 6 other countries to have come online with CDMA Systems!

GSM may have been better in the 80's & 90's .... Due to the fact that it was the only standard used outside of the USA. But GSM has reached the peak of it's potential for expansion in the services that were offered. CDMA offers more flexibility and has more "horsepower" to handle usage.
As far as CDMA being a bttery hog, Either you're too young to remember analog systems, or so old that you...

first of all if u check the specs the cingular version has better battery than the cdma version.. so battery life has nothing to do with it being thicker. also the cingular version is so much lighter too. 105g vs 86g. also 16 bit screen vs cings 18 bit.

Correct, Motorola makes this phone, not Cingular. So there is no copying taking place. Motorola has made a similar phone for two different technologies.

Back to my car analogy; (see other post on this thread) Ford makes a gasoline and deisel version of the same truck, they look pretty close to each other, but styling is slightly different. It's just a different version of the same package.

Had cingular not paid a lot to have exclusivity on this handset, MOTO would have released both at the same time, and you would not have said it's a copy.
