Questions before I buy

I recently bought an LG phone as a replacement for my Motorola V400. There were a number of features that the LG didn't support, so I ultimately returned it. I didn't realize just how important those features were to me.

So before I buy this KRZR K1, I'd like to find out if it will support the features that matter most to me.

1) When the phone is not in use (just sitting on the desk), does the front display stay on showing the time? On the LG, the front display would blank out after a minute or two. Hate that. I want to know what time it is without having to push a button.

2) When entering a text message, do the keys support Spanish characters? The V400 does not, but the V551 does (so the 6 key has m, n, n with tilde, o, and 6...

1. yes the scren will still be on while phone is idle ... just the brightness goes away

2. it will most likely do the same as the other motorolas

3. if the razr feels sturdy to u then yes the krzr is sturdy but IMHO both can break if i sneeze on them .

4. Itap sucks for texting but since u like it then yes it will support it

5. not sure about the capitalizing with the d pad but i know u can hit the # key and get it up

6. u can only send or receive 200to 400 msgs total

7. 2 gig card is max

to be totally honest i think the phone looks great but your better off with a samsung sync a-707 because its better ... its 3g ..... its sturdy as a brick....your can see and know what u are hitting when u hit a button ....
and it ...

The K1 bought unlocked from the Motorola site will do what the poster was asking about, with the exception of being able to allocate unlimited memory to the storage of texts.

The K1 will take a 2 gig memory card, but I do not believe you can allocate any of the card memory to text messages.

There's one thing that bugs me about the original poster's choice of the K1, and that is that he seems to want to use the phone primarily for text messaging.

It seems to me that in that case the poster would be better served by one of the Cingular phones with a fold-out QWERTY keyboard.

Thank you both for the responses to my questions. Sounds like the K1 will do mostly what I'm looking for.

In regards to a couple of the points brought up in the response...

I haven't tried a Qwerty keyboard phone. I've considered it, but one thing I like about my current phone is that I can use one hand to send the message. I've gotten particularly good at sending long messages on these little phones (simply from practice) and so I sort of like it. But I certainly should take a look at the keyboard phones. Might switch. As long as they also have a very good camera (I like having a camera on the phone.)

I will also investigate the recommended Samsung Sync phone. Never hurts to check it out.

But in truth, what really tends to...
