What's the story on the unlocked overseas phones ?

I've seen several K1's for sale on Ebay, Plemix etc and they all seem to be from Hong Kong or somewhere overseas and include with them a power converter. How do you know what you're getting from these sellers ? Very few include any kind of disclosure about the warranty. People posting merchant reviews seem to have trouble getting Motorola to handle any issues that come up. Some sellers say they'll deal with DOA phones but not much else.

Is it at least reasonably safe to buy one of these ? Can anyone recommend a reputable seller ? I live in Seattle so was going to try Plemix but if the low prices come with a hidden cost as in pre-opened boxes or phones with foreign language menus, it's not worth it.

Thanks

I am from the US but I currently live in Dubai (Middle East) I keep my Cingular account active for when I travel home. I have a Moto V3i, V3x and an L7. All are unlocked quad band. They work on cingular's network, as well as any other network in the world. BUT, when i was home in August, I visited my friends at Cinglar to see why none of my data features work. (only SMS works) I was told that since the phone was not provided by Cingular, there was no way any other features could be programmed to work. I am sure this is a load of BS but that is what I was told.

Buying a KRZR is like showing one of your ladys your "ooooo" face, when its all over I need a cigarette. Anyway unlocked phones are for hippies and Bruce Springstein.

Dont waste your money...

I had my K1 for 2 weeks, and while the phone is cool, and can make and receive calls,, there are just too many things that dont work or are --quirky-

See above things on time, voice mail, picture and ringer id's etc...

Hopefully Cing will have a fix once the phone is released..

Why dont you try to imput the settings in the phone yourself. Theres plenty of sites that will give you the settings to be manually set into your phone.
