Continuously restarts charging!!

I have a Motorola KRZR K1. When I put it on charge, it makes the sound that shows that the charging started and the Charging Battery not comes up on screen. After a few seconds this disappears (like when the mobile is off) and after a couple of seconds it starts charging again.

It does this continuously when the charger is connected to the mobile. Can anybody help me cos this is driving me crazy! Thanks
