Can MP3's be used as ringtones on the KRZR K1M?

Thanks,

what about the old trick of creating an mp3 on the computer, renaming it to .mid and emailing to your phone? worked on the razr.

nope verizon locked it up so that you'll have to buy ringtones from them. the phone technicall supports it but verizon likes to make $$$

what happened with the v710 lawsuit? sorry, i'm outta the loop there.

but my KRZR has all these locks over their ringtones. very annoying.

if it's truly about making $$, it's kinda odd-- because the Samsung A990 has enabled My Sounds to be used as ringtones-- but they're *.mid files.

There was a class action suit because Verizon crippled the bluetooth capabilities and it wasn't originally documented. So people who joined the suit were able to replace their V710 for free.

I actually make my own ringtones but I no longer have a way to use them ☚ī¸ If anyone learns of a way to get them on the phone, please let this forum know!!

I found away of doing it. Go to freeringers.net create a user name and Id. It will explain how to send your mp3's to your phone for ringtone use. you will have to cut it down to less than 30 sec. then you text it to yourself from the website. It does cost $7.99 but that's for a whole year and you can put in 4 different phone numbers to do it. check it out. I did and it works great.

i think it is funny that u would buy a $200 phone then complain about a couple of $'s for ringtones, verizon has been doing it for years i have gotten used to it

Went to the Alltel store and asked this very question. The Alltel KRZR is not crippled like the Verizon one. I watched the sales guy make an mp3 a ringtone right in front of me.

take a picture. email it to yourself from the phone. respond to the email with the mp3 attached. save the sound (options menu). the sound is now able to be used as a ringtone.

I use my mp3's as ringtones on the K1m and the Razr V3c. I just use the bluetooth and transfer them over, but I guess you have to have an Alltel phone. The K1m's from Alltel are open and also support a connection mode where your computer will see it as another drive. I see your posts about sending the tones in a message a picture message, change the file name to .midi, I'm glad I'll never have to buy a phone from Verizon. Other people who want my ringtones, I just send them over via the Bluetooth.

if you have a "verizon k1m" e-mailing and saving the song to the phone does not work, don't waste your time it saves it to a different file. check out hofo for directions on how to use p2kcommander and msu to get ringtones transferred over a usb cable.

Did any of you sign up at https://www.vzwpix.com/login.do ? Maybe that's the key. It's not like I have godlike powers, and others on HowardForums are writing that it worked for them as well. Or maybe it's that I do it from a Mac? I don't know but the procedure worked for me to get photos and mp3's onto my phone. I didn't rename any of them and the tones ranged from 75 to 750k. I was told that GMail is best, but I've also used .Mac; once again:

email the file to yournumber@vzwpix.com

open the pixflix message, from the options menu, select save sound.

when you go into a contact to choose the ringtone, your sounds will be there.

Same with pictures.

I only wanted about 5 tones and a couple of photos that were on my old phone...

Not on mine- I read on HowardForums that happens if you have it set to vibrate them ring, though.

Or do you mean when someone else calls?

I have my default ringer set to one mp3, I have my 3 best friends set as different mp3's and I have my mail alert set to a still different one. I don't know why you guys are having all this trouble. I was not going to keep this phone if I couldn't get the ringers I have been using for 2 years on my V710 onto this one. This is the way that I found that worked. Like I wrote, I am willing to meet at the Apple store at the Grove in LA after work if you want to see the procedure I used. Other than that I don't know what to tell you.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. This worked on my phone. If you check Hofo, it worked on a few other peoples phones. I'm sorry if it didn't work for you; I hope the seem edit thing does. In any case, good luck to you; I can't give you any more information, since I've gotten the ringtones I wanted on my phone, I'm done.

P2kCommander also works. If you can't find a driver for that, don't blame it on the K1m.
