Video question

Does anyone know if the a800 has improved video at all? Is this just a plain 15 fps video like say the 5600, or is it somewhat improved???

A800 PC interface?

For those that have the phone,

What kind of interface and software package the phone comes with? What can you do with the phone? Can you upload/download pictures, music, ringtones, games, sync with outlook, enter contact info using your computer???

TIA

had it in my hands...and didn't choose it!

Hi all,
went to the sprint store today and checked out the ONE they had in hand. I was not disappointed, the phone is solid, but I still chose the Sanyo 5600 over it.
For me...the voice-to-text test they allowed me to do did not work well... 40% misses and a lot of repeats.
The lack of a speakerphone in the a800 is huge to me and I have a tiny and very sweet 7mp camera.
The final killer is that while i couldn't make a call on either... I could turn the volume to max with a few selected ringtones and the Sanyo kicked butt and it sounded nice too.

As far as Ev-Do...it's not available but for a small percentage of covered areas and the 1xRTT is fast enough for anything short of a city-based IT professional.

Conversely, this was my fi...

the sad thing...

is that you guys actually made me want the phone, before anyone had it in their hands. then you get it, and don't talk about it's performance, and don't post any pictures that it takes. Thanks for the big letdown.

lots of good info but....!!!!

Nobody has mentioned the voice to text capabilities, the video capture capabilities, or the multimedia capabilities.
What is the fps for multimieda...is it 15fps or did they finally get to 30!?
Can you browse the web using voice commands?
Can you write a note with ease?
What size video and what fps can you record?
Anybody ...Buehler? Buehler? (pardon the 80's reference).

end of the month

i talked to a local sprint rep today who has obviously been keeping up on things and has tested both the 5600 and the A800. he gave me some info.
he said that sanyo shipped out today to sprint for distro.
he's expecting to see them by the 25th but expects at least by the end of the month.
the phone is truly awesome.
it's going to be the same price as the 5600, roughly and carry the rebate. it comes with all kinds of new technology, bells and whistles if you will, which you all are well aware of. i read it has a voice recognition text imput. WHAT? plus you've got to admit an eye that can scan anything is pretty cool let alone one that scans information for your phone book. and he said that sprint just spent like 3 billion on upgrading th...

CCD Camera Phones

Were there any camera phones that use a CCD sensor rather than a CMOS?

All the megapixels in the world done mean a thing if the lens and the sensor are not high quality.

If you compare the MPX220 1.3 mp CMOS camera to the SE S710A 1.3 mp CCD camera there is no comparison.

Aside from the s710a are any other manufacturers planing on putting together a phone with a CCD camera to compete with the s710a?

The reason I ask is that I like all the features on the Sony-ericsson, but I do not like their interface. I may stand alone on this fact but I prefer the motorola interface, especially when it comes to their predictive text input and various menu navigation.

I am trying out the s710a for a few days and I have decided they...

Decent phone, and I know the release date

This is a decent phone for being a Samsung and for Sprint. I can't give the exact release date of release due to confidentiality agreements but what I was told today by my Samsung rep, someone that would definitely know (I work for Sprint), start looking for it well before the end of this month.

Not too far away

A long while, we recieved an email that it might be in stores late May, Just today, i noticed i was able to pull it up as a 'coming soon' phone on the intranet server... that isn't always a very accurate estimate of when it's coming out, for the v200, it was put up there like 4 days before release, but for the lg535... well, we're still waiting. Time to get rid of my VGA 🙂

I think what is missing

That should have been reported were the small upstart companies.

I talked to some of the manufacturer reps and more than a few of them were impressed with the design and build qualities of some of the smaller Chinese and Korean venture groups.

One group that was really impressive at the show was NewGen with their really cool designs.

Under an inform discussion in the eating area, some of the these product managers feel that in the next 10 years, some of them (like Hop On, Bird, New Gen, Telson) maybe in the top 10 market and some of the older stalwarts in the world markets (like Alcatel, Philips, Siemens and Mitsubishi) may pull out as phones becomes total commodity items.

Samsung i730

Is there any news on the Samsung i730? Will it be Verizon? When might it be available? Also, any hints if the WIFI portion will be enabled?
