V551 and Speaker Independent Voice Dialing

Hello,

I am considering a V551 but I have also been looking at the Verizon LG4500. The thing I like about the LG4500 is the speaker independent voice recognition of contacts. Specifically with the 4500 it is possible to voice dial a contact without pre recording a voice tag. Obviously if you have hundreds of contacts and you want to voice dial any one of them this is a real time saver. Several sites reviewing the V551 indicated that it also has the feature but when I went by and saw one last night it seemed to work pretty much exactly the same as my V400 (i.e. you have to pre-record the tag).

Does anyone have any idea why the reviews would have thought this capability exists?

Here is one of the URL's that I found...

I agree, this is clearly not speaker independent if you have to preprogram the voice tag. I'm still wondering whether there is a spin of this phone or maybe a firware update that is coming that adds this feature.

Peaceful-Warrior,

There is a optional-extra feature called Voice Connect that allows you to have "Speaker (person) independant Voice Dialing".

Cingular Voice Connect offers three great services in one—voice dialer, voice information services, and voice entertainment services.

* Voice Dialer—Simply speak the name or number of the person you want to reach and we’ll dial their number. With Voice Dialer you no longer have to fumble through an address book, scroll through a contact list, or use your keypad.
* Voice Information Services—Say a voice prompt and get the most current information on news, sports, movies, stocks, lottery results, and more.
* Voice Entertainment Services—Receive information on your p...

Hi,

Sparks, thank you for your message. Yes, I am aware of voice connect but today several phones (including the LG4500 and the Motorola V710) have the ability to do much of the same thing that voice connect does right in the phone.

Right from the LG4500 you can say "Dial Someone" it will then ask you for the name "Joe Smith" then a computer generated voice will say the name "Joe Smith" and then ask you whether you want the Work, Mobile etc. # for this contact.

Note the Latest firmware for the LG4500 enhances these features signicantly.

My Motorola V551 will do voice dialing but it will only hold about 20 tags before it runs out of memory whereas with the LG4500 becuase there is no need to store a tag you shoudl be able to ...
