Anyone using this phone on Cingular yet?

I called a ATT store today and asked them if I could just pay retail without a contract and they said yes. When I showed up the answer was no. I called a different store and they said yes we do it all of the time. I was hoping to get one and unlock it and use on Cingular. Any \one see any problems like internet useage??

Update #2

Ok, after a reasonably solid day of nominal use, the phone has held up well. Battery life is wonderful so far, but it will be months before I know how well the battery REALLY holds out. Still, it's promising.

I have found what I think are the first two annoyances with the phone. Will have to keep searching to see if perhaps I just missed a feature configuration or not.

Annoyance #1: Phone does not ring through to wireless (BT) headsets. If you have an incoming call, or even just pressing the keypad and hearing the standard keypress tones, they all come through the phone's main speaker. Even with your BT headset on, the call rings on the phone, not on the headset. You can answer with your headset (see annoyance #2 for more on this), but...

I want this phone for Cingular, ATT says they won't sell it outright?

ATT won't sell this phone outright? I guess I could sign up for a plan and then cancel saying I lost the phone? Anyone know what will happen after Nov 15th. I was wanting to get a hp 6315 but it seems to doomed, too many probs. I just want a good phone with a powerful contact program.

Thanks

Unlocked - SMT 5600

Well it seems that they have unlocked this phone. (http://www.c500-unlock.com/)

Earlier this month I purchased the SMT 5600 through ATT online for $149 and tested it out around Jacksonville, FL area. I am currently a Nextel user (5 + years)

My problem is at my house I thought Nextel was bad, but found out that ATT was worse.

What I don't understand is once you have a phone unlocked does that mean that I can take the phone (GSM only networks) and sign up with any GSM carrier (ie t-mobile,cingular/att, etc.)?? I also assume this statement was a little over generalized considering that from what I read ATT sims are 32k and cingular ens sims are 64k so I would not be able to benefit from that but all things considered I could migrate ...

Connecting to a laptop to provide internet access

I used to connect my laptop to my SE T68i and was able to access the Internet, although it was rather slow. I could connect via the IR port or bluetooth and it worked fine. I tried using the same settings with the Audiovox using bluetooth but it will not connect. Has anyone tried to use their phone in this manner and if so what were the settings that you used on the laptop in order for it to connect successfully to the Internet?

Thanks

Voice Dialing (from BT Headset)

Is this feature supported I created avoice command on the phone (verified that it works) But while using the BT200 I can't get it to work? Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing or is this feature not available in a smartphone.

How to display clock during a call?

How do I get a clock to show when someone is calling and while I'm on a call? It disappears in both cases.

ActiveSync

This is the problem I'm having with ActiveSync: Sometimes I'll fumble around on the phone Contacts menu and accidentally erase the last digit of a phone number or something. Then, when I sync it up to Outlook with active sync, the accidentally-erased number replaces the correct version in Outlook.

Is there a way to turn on something where I have to manually choose whether I want to replace or keep the Outlook version? There is if BOTH files are different from the last time it was synced, but otherwise whichever one is different replaces the one that was the same from the last sync.

Am I missing something?

IE data size

I've been a heavy user of my WAP browser (check Yahoo mail constantly, read ESPN articles etc.) and never gone over my monthly data limit (5MB).

However, I've heard that since this phone will be using the 'real' internet instead of WAP it will be pulling in much more data. Any sense of how big the difference would be? I just want to get a sense of how much I might have to bump up my data plan and what it would cost.

Customization

Has anyone figured out the limits to how customizable the phone is? I would love to move around the order of the menu options, or creat my own home screen (not backgrounds, but apps available, placement of notifications, etc) in a different way than the few defaults that were provided with the phone. Anyone attempt any of this?

T9 text input

Anyone know, offhand, how to remove words from the stupid T9 dictionary? I added "Wmt" by accident, and that pops up as the first option when I want to type "You" in now.

Please help me!

Did anyone try to upgrade their phone to the new SMT5600 from attws.com?

If so, did you add both voice and data plans or just the data plan
I tried to upgrade my phone to the new 5600 by adding a 1yr unlimited internet plan and not opting for a voice plan( assuming that I could use my existing voice plan).

Was able to place order online successfully, but was finally cancelled.

The reason: " can't just add data plan. Have to add voice plan
I tried to argue with a rep that a voice plan is an optional feature but to no avail.

Any thoughts?

My experience getting this phone without data.

I'll try to make this quick.

1. I ordered the phone off Amazon with a 400+300 $39.99 plan (no data) knowing that AT&T requires data on their site. Received the phone this Tuesday.
2. I waited until the next morning and my phone still didn't register with the network.
3. I called and the guy flat out told me the phone wouldn't work without data and I should return it. I knew this was BS.
4. I tried a friend's AT&T sim card in my phone - worked fine.
5. I emailed Amazon about this, got a generic response, emailed again and it said to turn on the phone and I'd get an email with my new #.
6. I was skeptical of this, but much to my surprise I looked at my phone and sure enough, it said AT&T Wireless on it!
7. Lastly I checked my account...

Plan Expiration Change from AT&T->Cingular

Talked with three different reps today (see my last post) and asked specifically what was going to happen with my AT&T plan once it expires under Cingular. They all had the same thing to say.

Apparently, Cingular has decided that once an AT&T customer's plan expires, they can continue on that plan (without being under a new contract) until further notice. When asked what "further notice" constitutes, all they knew was that we'd hear something if/when that was going to change.

In the meanwhile, people who have AT&T plans and LIKE their plans can stay with Cingular without losing their plans once they expire. This is really good news. This and the $25/mo data are 100% keeping me with AT&T versus jumping to another carrier. The minute the...

MP3 with Album Art in WMP10?

This is probably a general Windows Media Player 10 (WMP10) for Smartphone question, but since the Audiovox 5600 is the first Smartphone with this player, and it happens to be the phone I have, I'll ask here...

I have MP3 files on my PC that, according to WMP10 on the PC, have embedded album art. I have used WMP10's "Sync" feature to copy over the files to the Audiovox. While the files play fine on the Audiovox, the album art does not appear. All descriptions of WMP10 for Smartphone indicate that it is capable of this feature, but I can't seem to get the album art to show up.

Any help/advise?

What version of MIDP?

Does this phone support MIDP 2.0?
