Can you specify a port number for smtp email?

I am trying to set up my 6600 to send and receive pop email from my gmail account, and while I can receive fine, I am unable to send. Gmail specifies that the outbound smtp server needs to be on port 587, yet on the pop outbound server setup on the 6600, there is nowhere to specify port. Any ideas? Or do I need a third party email application.

Thanks

confused about Bluetooth capability (ActiveSync?)

I'm confused about the Bluetooth capability (VIA Verizon). I'd like to use ActiveSync but without having to dock the 6600. I see mention about syncing Outlook VIA Bluetooth DUN.

I can't imagine how I could use DUN to sync with my laptop unless it's a matter of diverting ActiveSync through the COM port that the DUN thinks it's attached to?

The rep at the Verizon store said I CAN sync using Bluetooth. But the rep is a sales person and they'll say anything you want to hear. I just have a feeling VZE isn't going to allow me to make a Bluetooth sync to my laptop for FREE???

Thanks

My Review Update - FUGGETTABOUTIT ....And The Answer For Those Complaining About No Voice Capability

Since phonescoop doesn't allow updates to reviews, I'm posting mine here in the forum.

Returned the phone after 4 days and accepted a new replacement. Turns out the original one was defective and the volume issues remain though not quite as bad as that 1st unit. Call transfer from the Bluetooth headset does work properly now. Audiovox tech support still claims there's a software fix for volume issues coming soon, but still no ETA. I was also told that the # of volume complaints with the Verizon version of the phone outweigh those of the Sprint by a very wide margin. One area volume is not an issue is using the supplied stereo headset with Windows Media player, actually louder and clearer than my old i700. I rarely use the phone for...

XV6600 vrs. Samsung i730

When the XV6600 first came out, I was pretty excited about it, especially the EVDO service. I was even told by a Verizon data tech that I could use it on a limited bases as a high speed modem for a laptop or desk top PC and even a Mac, which would be a big plus for me. Camera with flash, good size display, Pocket PC functionality, key board and graffiti, life was looking good!

Then I heard about the Samsung i730. The processor specs are better and it definitely looks better. Life got a little more complicated.

I'd like some input. Here is what I've heard:

XV6600: No Wi-Fi (may be the same for the i730. Not big for me in either case). Poor blue tooth, poor speaker and ringer volumes, both of which I've heard have software fixes. N...

XV6600 No Longer Available

After swamping the market with advertising about the special pricing on the XV6600, Verizon has now made it unavailable for purchase on the West coast. Can anybody shed any light on this for me? If I change my zip to someplace on the East coast, it still shows as available on their web site.

Assign Ringtones to Individual Contacts

This may be an obvious one that I overlooked, but can anyone tell me how to assign a personalized ringtone to a specific contact. So far I've only been able to designate one ringtone for all incoming calls. Please don't tell me I have to purchase more software. By the way, I have the Sprint/Audiovox PPC 6600. Thanks.

Extended Battery-The updates/Questions...

I know there was a thread earlier, but I'm just following up on it. Has anyone purchased one of these batteries?.. I'm pretty sick of my phone dying on me by seven pm... ESPECIALLY when my work day doesn't end until around ten pm... I'm interested but would like to hear what the ones who have bought it thought first... The $124.00 looks like the size of the phone itself, and the $79.99 doesn't look too bad. But if the performance is worth it, then oh well.. Let me know, DL.... darionlear@hotmail.com

Need feedback on users of SanDisk 256Mb/WiFi Card

If anyone has any experience with the SanDisk 256 Mb + WiFi card, can you please post your experience to this forum.

In particular, does it work reliably out of the box or are there driver and incompatibility issues. Also, how bad does it make battery life on the 6600 (given that battery life on this device is atrocious already).

I'm considering getting this card for the 6600.

Thanks!

Help...Urgent phone decision needed

OK, so I am a college student, and also in charge of my own business and a rather busy schedule. I really like the idea of a pda/cell phone, however, I am still a bit wary of something this big. So my question is this: how does the size of this affect your usage? Is it rugged enough for me to carry around in my back pocket, like a normal cell phone, or is it just to fragile and bulky?

I am comparing this right now to a "LG VX-8000," "Audiovox CDM-8900," "Motorola V710"

Any input?

Please reply soon, or email me at "surfer349@yahoo.com"

thanks,
Adam
