Does anyone know whether AT&T will have the V3 too?

Will the phones be unlocked?

Probably, since they merged together, with Cingular being the primary.

As with ALL Cingular Motorola phones, and with many posts about it, yes. 🙂

There isn't going to be an AT&T, it is going to be all Cingular as of Nov. 15th. All of the stores are going to be converted to Cingular at close on Nov. 14th and open on the 15th as Cingular. The external sign on the store will still say AT&T until is is replaced, but the inside of the store is going to be all Cingular.

The deal that was struck says that they are allowed to still have limited AT&t branding rights for 6 months after the close.

Yeah but the point is that AT&T is out... I'm converting some of the stores, I think I would know. Of course they are going to dual brand for a while to keep AT&T customers happy and not confused about what is going on, but in the long run, it's going to be all Cingular.

So will AT&T customers be able to get Cingular phones after 11/15 w/o signing with Cingular plans? I'm still under 30 days with my V505 and want a Cingular phone instead but I got better deals with AT&T through my company. So would I be able to trade out after the 15th for a Cingular phone?

If you're up for renewal you can either stick with your old AT&T phone and plan or get a new Cingular plan and phone starting on Nov. 15th. From what I've been reading it seems like you will have to sign a new contract to get a Cingular phone, unless of course you buy it for the full retail price.

That's right. You will have to sign a new Cingular contract. So better to do it NOW, while they are still operating separately. You can go through a Cingular authorized online agent and get the great subsidized deals they offer only to new customers (can you say free phone?)

The Cingular phones will be sim locked. Customers will need Cingular phones with Cingular rate plans and vice versa. You will not be able to use a AT&T Wireless rateplan with a Cingular phone.
