Cingular A630 dummy phone

Hey,
I walked into a cingular store today just to check out the other phones in case I bail on the A630 when on my way out (speak of the devil) the A630 was there proudly on display. It was a dummy phone, but I picked it up, opened it, played with the keyboard and pretended it was real. The sign holder next to it that shows the price was blank. I asked the rep how much it was and she said (shock!) it's not out yet. She said it was coming out next month tho. I asked how much it was going to be when it comes out "next month" (wink, wink) and she checked her price sheet and told me $209.99. So does that mean anything that they had the dummy phone on display there? I thought its supposed to mean something when they get the dummy phone. Bu...

Yahoo Messenger on A630?

Hi,

I was thinking of getting the Motorola A630 through T-mobile and was wondering if I will be able to use Yahoo Messenger through T-zones... I know that I will be able to use AIM but am unsure about other messaging providers.

Thanks a ton,

-K 🙂

Can you buy the dark A630?

Hey, I'm thinking about buying an unlocked A630. Does anyone know if its possible to get one in the darker black color (not the light grey T-mobile color). I just like the way the darker one looks. Do any websites sell the darker one?

Ringer ID problem

When you attach a ringer ID to a phone number, it also makes that the same sound for when they send you a text message. I have never had a phone do that and it is really annoying because i think someone is calling me and its a text message. Is there any way to fix this?

Bluetooth for anything useful... any success?

Has anyone had any success in using Bluetooth on this phone for OBEX or anything else besides the headset? The Motorola docs say the phone supports the Object Exchange profile, but I can't find a way to beam anything to another phone (or a PC), including even a contact.

I was able to partner no problem with another phone and a mac. The Motorola data software (don't get me started on not including it, by the way) is for PC only. Anyone know of anything that will work on a Mac?

Anyone use Reqwireless on the A630?

I have read that some people downloaded it and it worked for them a couple months ago but recently it has not and they think it's cuz T Mobile has disabled it somehow.

Has anyone gotten it recently and it has worked?

Instant Messaging (AIM, YIM, ICQ)

I have a Sidekick II right now. I'm planning on replacing it with a Motorola A630 due to size. I’ve read professional and user reviews on the Motorola phone, however, I haven’t seen any comments on instant messaging itself. I specifically use the SKII because of its “Always On” connection and handy keyboard. I mainly use the Email, SMS, and Instant Messaging services. It seems to me that the A630 has it all except the IM feature. Instant Messaging on the SKII is “live” meaning, it’s not text message based. If I send an IM message to a buddy on his computer, he receives the message right away. And is he responds, I receive the message right away. Based on my previous experiences with other phones, if I attempted to send an Instant Message t...

Text messaging functionality

For those of you who have the a630, i have a few questions.

What are your true feelings on the QWERTY keyboard? Is it implimented as well as it could be? IS there anything you don't like, or would like to improve upon?

I've had a chance to play around with a live model, but only for a short moment. Is there a way to set it so that, when you begin typing on the keybooard, it automatically opens a new text message (like the nokina 6800 does, for example)? I noticed when I hit a key that also funtioned as a "number" key (0-9, *, #) it took it to mean i was typing in a phone number. Is there a way to change that?

text messaging

i like many people purchased this phone for its text messaging feature. i owned and loved a talkabout. this phone is full of potential, its just so difficult to initialy set up ☹️ ive worked though the phonebook and setting. my issue is with recieving texts. all my TM come with a #. for instance mine is 500. so my first incoming TM is 501, then the next is 502 ect..... wtf!? am i completly missing something with text messaging?? ive only been outa the loop for 6 months lol.

This May Be A Dumb Question But...

I am new to GSM and am interested in this phone but I have Cingular. My question is...since this is a 800mhz phone, will it work with Cingular since they use 850mhz and 800 and 850 are pretty much the same thing?
