So cool, if only it had.....

I was very excited when I first saw this. It looks very cool and I was hoping that it would replace my Nokia 6620, Sharp Zaurus SL-C760, and iPod. Too bad it's short a few features, though. If only it had:

1.) a slightly larger internal screen
2.) SD/MMC expansion card slot
3.) Symbian or perferrably Linux OS
4.) Class 10 EGPRS

Since it only looks like it has 5MB memory, I guess Moto isn't going to install iTunes on this model. ☚ī¸

The Nokia 9300/9500 looks like it'll be a better fit for me, but I like the size of this one and I really hate Nokia's contact application... plus I'd rather have Linux (so I can run bash, perl, etc.) than Symbian.

Hopefully Moto will come out with a similar model that includes some of the items o...

End of 2nd week through 3rd week

I was at my Cingular dealer today and they informed me that Motorola would be releasing a new phone to them with Bluetooth within 2 weeks. I can't be sure this is the A630 but from my knowledge there is no other bluetooth phone from Moto being released for Cingular soon. Hope this helps anyone who was wondering.

Thanks...Scott

Concerns!!

Do you guys think the A630 will have the same problem as some of the other newer model Motorolas..(v300 and v600)? I have a v300 and the screen seems to freeze on it here and there, my ringers keep playing even after i close the flip, and my speaker has gone out a few times! I am debating between the A630 and Sidekick II.. So I was just seeing what you guys would be thinking on that matter.

Anybody know? (Rich?)

I'm currently using the V60i for ALLTEL and I'm waiting patiently for Cingular to release the A630 so I can get the phone when I inevitably switch over (had a bunch of crap with ALLTEL).

I'd absolutely LOVE it if I could use the slim battery from my v60i as a back-up for the A630. Does anyone know if the A630 uses this battery? If not it's fine, I've never had dire need for a back-up, but it'd be nice to have. Plus it would always help if it let's the A630's factory battery live longer overall.

Lemme know!

should i be worried?

I hear cingular is pulling the v600 from its line up because of all the problems people are having with the phone.Since the a630 has the same specifications as the v600 should i still try to wait for this phone or assume that its goin to have all the troubble_the v600 has and try to buy another phone?

clarity

hey all. i think a lot of yo are confused on the intentions of motorola. i read a lot where people are asking whether or not the aim will be full blown like the csk, or if it's going to have a powerful PIM like the treo or ppc series. i don't think this phone was designed to attack those markets. if anything, this phone could be viewed as motorola's answer to maybe the 6820, or phones that come on the market as messaging phones. so sure it won't be able to pull full webpages, but if you needed that, why don't you just purchases the csk, or ppc?

ps. my regional manager said that the a630 should be coming out for t-mobile by october or november.

The perfect design!

I've been using smart phones for the last several yrs (Treo 300, 600, RIM 7280 etc). The A630 seems to have the perfect balance between phone & pda! All they need is to make the internal screen larger and integrate with Outlook/Corp email etc. Any word on when this phone will be offered on other carriers?

over in the "MotoSummer 2004" discussion:

More tidbits - A630 and V3

A couple of interesting, random things I remembered after publishing the article:

1. During a call, the A630 automatically switches to speakerphone mode when you open it. Very handy if you're talking to someone and need some info from email, the phone book, calendar, etc.

2. The bottom of the V3 (the bulge below the keypad) houses the antenna, Bluetooth module, and polyphonic ringtone speaker. It's also the only plastic part of the case (since metal tends to block radio signals).

Even though that's normally where you would put your hand, and flesh also blocks radio signals, Motorola engineers swear up, down, and sideways that it gets great reception - as good or better than any of their other phones.

So even though it's counter-i...

A630 delayed

Hi, just thought i'd let everyone know that I talked to a Motorola rep today and she said that the A630 has in fact been delayed for both Cingular and T-Mobile until November. Accoring to her there are no problems or issues with the phone and there are no changes being made to the phone, it was strictly done for strategic purposes and they felt that with their current lineup, November would be a better time to release it. She said that it will however be available in other countries, such as the U.K., at its original planned release date but if you live in the US she advised not purshasing it overseas because there will be certain incaompatabilities with email and other features with US service providers.
My current contract runs out in a...

how do you see what you're taking a picture of?

how can you see what you're taking a picture of? with the camera lens on the front, i'm assuming you need to have the phone open to view the color lcd inside? this looks like exactly the phone for me except for that kind of photography would be very awkward.

does anyone know if this is actually the case? anyone used one to take a picture yet? let us know how it works.

Internet on A630

If i'm not mistaken the internet on the A630 is WAP. Sidekick uses some other protocol which to me is just like sitting on your pc, full color graphics and everything. Wap is just the basic text, right? if thats the case the A630 won't be a true rival of the sidekick. are there any phones where the internet looks like the sidekick?
