Samsung Tight-Lipped

I'm thinking of this phone for its GSM capabilities. Called and emailed Samsung USA. Wow, are they tight with the info (as in none). The lady was very pleasant but wasn't about to say word one on this phone.

VZW rep did say its on their intranet site, as has been reported here I think, with the words, "Coming Soon!" Big deal.

Cost of world service

Just trying to play devils advocate, because this phone seems incredible, however, does anyone know much the cost of service will actually run you should you venture into teritory outisde of the U.S. And if so, what type of cellular agreements is verizon going to provide, will it be pay as you go outside of the U.S. or will you have to change your contract entirely to take advantage of the world GSM component.
And lastly, anyone have somewhat of a definitive idea of where the world capabilities are going to be useful. Seems to be that Europe is the major adversary, but what about the Carribean such as in Jamaica, St. Thomas, etc...
Thanks, in advance

User Trial

Small user trial was done for this phone. One of the Best phones I've tested in all Catagories. Samsung covered everything a user could want with this phone and then some. Even though I don't travel oversees I'll be getting this phone when we release it.

CTIA Wireless Show

Samsung just "revealed" the line up they are pushing out at the CTIA wireless show. Check the news press on the homepage of phonescoop.

It says that it will be available Q2. It was possible to do it Q1, but this way they can take their sweet time. I project late May, early June.

SCH-A790/Text Messaging

This phone is going to be a big plus for Verizon Wireless customers who travel abroad. Can't wait to see what the final product will look like and what features it will offer. Hopefully it will have the capability to send and receive text messages while on GSM networks in other countries. I travel out of the U.S. every couple years and have noticed that text messaging is very popular overseas.

Release Info

New Verizon cellphone to be usable worldwide

BY BRIAN BERGSTEIN

Associated Press

NEW YORK - Verizon Wireless plans to begin selling this spring a cellphone for use by subscribers around the world as well as in the United States.

The phone will have chips for two kinds of wireless network systems: the CDMA standard used by Verizon in America and the GSM standard used in most of the rest of the world.

In most places, the GSM calls will be carried by Vodafone PLC, the British cellphone company that owns 45 percent of Verizon Wireless.

The phone is scheduled to debut in April.

Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Brenda Boyd Raney declined to disclose price or the phone's manufacturers.

RANDOM AMAZING PHONE BY NEC

THis phone has anything anyone could possibly want in a phone, and more. It comes with a TV tuner too, so you can watch TV, like you need that 😉 This is a Vodafone site, so I am guessing there is no possibility of it coming out in the US, and a slim possibility of it working on Verizon, but other GSM networks can use it, if the phone is unlocked. Check it out.

When????

Does anyone have a clue when this phone will be available? I was told by the local Verizon store that it should be out sometime this month but I've not seen anything to indicate that.
