Samsung SCH-A790 / SCH-A795 / IP-A790

Boy is the Mrs. pissed. I ordered this phone but based on what everyone has been saying I was totally convinced it was a no-go. Didn't tell her, right? I mean, what was the point since VZW was going to cancel the order anyway. So guess what shows up at the Mrs. place of business? The Samsung A790! Cripe, who would have figured?

I'm on the road at this moment (Seoul, Guam, Hawaii, California) and when I get home, I will write a review. In the meantime: I'm sure the #1 question is, "Hey, how did you get this phone?!?!?! I mean, WTF, over????" And this is really a good question.

I had a chance to examine a non-functioning, but production, unit at the local VZW store. Since it could not be turned on, I cannot comment on the features. But I can give some insight into the phone itself.

It is WIDE. Almost too wide. It is pretty big for a modern cell phone, and a bit heavy at that. My most immediate comparison is the T730 I own, so it felt bigger and bulkier to say the least. The metal shell is very sturdy, and the phone has a solid feel. When it is closed, both the top and bottom have an inset channel in which there is a slight gap of space - this does not make it very streamlined or form fitting to the hand. Of most concern, I think, I could not tell if the numbers will light up or not.

Questions: Why do any of you NEED a global phone? Do you guys travel overseas like every weekend or is it just a primival URGE for the latest technology? I mean, I understand it's a cool phone and everything, but why try to get one so soon? Got a pressing trip to Italy in the next few weeks where you absolutly HAVE to be able to be reached at your VZW number? Do any of you even know the long distance rates overseas? Why not wait for the launch to get one instead of putting your friend at Verzion in jepoardy of losing his job for selling you one before the 7th?

The verizon people who had taken my order came back and said that they cancelled my order 🙄

I guess I'll have to wait the June 7th date.

Click on "register your line" on rhw right hand side. If you are a home depot employee, all's well. If you are not, you still can fudge and register for now (hopefully unregister later). This makes you a b2b user.

Then, call up and get the phone. Hope this works.

😁 Finally you Verizon Wireless babies 😢 get a phone that is halfway decent. Maybe now you will stop looking at SprintPCS phones and crying that Verizon is in the stone age. If you want a nice phone so bad then stop crying and go to Sprint.

I read something along the lines of $350 w/ a 2 year contract. Why is this so much more expensive than the other camera phones? Is it due to the GSM or just it being a new phone?

My friend at verizon just told me that they will only offer this phone to their business customers only.

This phone will not be sold to the general public ... unless you are a business customer of theirs. ☹️

I'm assuming it must have to be, but does anyone have any info (especially that guy who said he got a PDF version of the manual) on whether or not this phone will support data connection to a laptop via a data cable (mobile office kit). I need this ability almost immediately after purchase to get online with my laptop from remote areas.

Also, it would be great if that guy with the PDF could post it somewhere and provide the FTP details for us to grab it!!!

Color me confused but maybe this is they way of the world.

Tried to order this phone. Of course, I'm not important enough (b2b) so I don't get the phone. I wonder if they realize their customers hate being treated like 2nd class? Anyway, the nice person at Intl Traveler said it would be out for us slugs June 7th. But get this: she wasn't sure the NE2 would apply!! WTF, over!?!?! I hope she's just being cautious and this isn't really the case.

She also confirmed in their specs it shows speakerphone. Whahoo.
