they finally issued a fix

As the article says THIS IS NOT A NEW PHONE

This is a two year old phone "Otherwise, all the features are the same as the original Torque"

This is like the cars with faulty parts, and they finally fixed the phone.

A new phone would have current components I.e. Kyocera brigadier

This is just a pacifier fixing on old product until they can offer the newer brigadier or similar on sprint

Due to contract, they can't bring it to sprint yet.

Dit they fix the wimpy PTT button?

I'm hoping the engineers at Kyocera fixed the way-way-WAY too easy to push PTT button. If they failed to do that, shame on them, and this phone will still be a fail, just as the first iteration is.

Difficult to believe that after nearly two years since introducing a new hardwired-PTT phone, the best Sprint & Kyocera can do is a warmed-over Torque. It goes to show that PTT is dead.

Kyocera smart sonic receiver using tissue conduction

This tissue conduction technology was actually named by popular science magazine Nov 2012 issue as one the top inventions in 2012. Also, you may want actual hear it to really understand how it works. Kyocera demonstrated how it would work in loud environments at the May 2012 CTIA show in New Orleans and won a bunch of awards. Kyocera has actually launched several phones in Japan. Just check out the web for Kyocera tissue conduction for info. It's really going to change the way people hear on by not having to find the sweet spot on the receiver anymore. You can place the screen anywhere against your ear to hear more clearly because now there are two paths for sound to reach your ear drum. The first is sound waves and second is the vibration c...

Nice review of the new Kyo Torque

It's great to hear such a good review for a Kyocera, especially one that can do Sprint Direct Connect.

I stopped by the local Sprint corp store today (Mar. 6) to take a look at it but when they said isn't available until the 8th, I decided I'd go to AT&T's store instead to look over their PTT offerings. Now that the Torque has received such a good first review here on Phonescoop, I'll be anxious to stop back by the Sprint store on the 8th and give it a try. The increase to $20/line/mo iDEN penalty will definitely have me off of Nextel, one way or another, before the end of March. I'm glad that the Torque sounds like a good phone to try out.

Thanks for the thorough review.

BTW, has anyone heard if Verizon has any plans to upgrade it'...

Smart Sonic Receiver audio technology

Does not work the way you think it does. Its pretty much a gimmick. You can get other items to act as a speaker, like a Glass (a cup). Let me tell you, however - if its so loud around you that you can't hear by holding the phone to your head, or by using a speaker phone, this will NOT help you. Go for a $5 bluetooth headset.

Kyocera smart sonic receiver using tissue conduction is amazing!

I was reading through some of the comments people made comparing the smart sonic receiver to a Bluetooth headset or noise cancellation. Do some research before you start dismissing new technology as a gimmick. This tissue conduction technology actually was named by popular science magazine Nov 2012 issue as one the top inventions in 2012. Also, you may want actual hear it to really understand how it works. They showed it the May CTIA 2012 show in New Orleans and won a bunch of awards. Kyocera has actually launched several phones in Japan. Just check out the web for Kyocera tissue conduction for info. Or better yet when it comes out trying using in a loud environment. Just some food for thought before dismissing this as just some replacement ...
