Cell-phone assist for seniors

This is a good idea, at least in principle, but it's a matter of detail & execution as to whether it will be actually useful to seniors.

Hopefully Sprint also incorporated things like:

(1) Large font, vastly simplified interface design (i.e. the number, size & legibility of icons & text on each screen),

(2) Rubbery, grippy cases (the iPhone could never be a serious phone for seniors, because of the ridiculously stupid slick-backed case Jobs insisted on).

(3) A convenient way to carry their phones on a lanyard the seniors can hang around their necks if they wish (phone is less likely to get lost/misplaced, it's closer to their ears so they will actually hear the phone ring/beep, they can get to it quickly so they can answer it bef...

iD pack for Cool Seniors

My grandfather couldn't even begin to know what a smartphone is, let alone use one. Give him a flip phone, however, even a slide-out with a keyboard, and hes good to go. Does sprint really think that seniors want to use any of those Smartphones they named support this ?

Just ordered online but now having second thoughts...help me with comparing

Just put thru an order to switch FROM T-Mobile to Sprint. I have the HTC G1, and I ordered the Samsung Transform and am anxiously awaiting it. Looks and feature wise, it is spot-on with what I want (and do), but after reading many reviews across the internet, I am starting to doubt my decision.

My main concern is would this be considered as a 'step up' from the G1? Is it any faster?
That is my main concern, my G1 lags horribly anymore. Plus the battery life is incredibly bad, and it has no 3.5mm audio jack.

One upside to me switching: Sprint approved me for regular postpaid whereas I am stuck on Flexpay with T-Mobile.

Google Earth?

Has anyone heard anything about Google Earth being supported for this phone in the future?

Has anyone been able to find a way to download it or make it work?

One of the reasons I bought the phone I did was because I understood that Google Earth was supported in Android 2.1+.

Now I find out that Google only supports their own product on certain devices, and the Transform, so far, is not one of them.

Not exactly bait and switch, but without doing alot of research all the Ads I've seen seemed to indicate that I would have this ability on this Smartphone.

No hardware acceleration for OpenGL

First of all, I have this phone and actually like it (though coming from Windows Mobile it would be hard not to). However, it was bashed pretty hard by Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/15/samsung-t ransform-review/) and definitely a take away from the review is this:

We also noticed that 3D apps chugged tremendously, and certain games (including Angry Birds) wouldn't run at all. We ran a few tests but soon got confirmation from Sprint itself: the Transform's S3C6410 processor doesn't support hardware acceleration for OpenGL.

So don't get this phone if you expecting to be able to play Angry Birds or any similar 3D accelerated games, I guess.

How to auto delete old emails

On my HTC Hero I could set it to automatically delete emails older than 1 day, 3 days, etc. I do not see this option on the Transform and I have been looking like crazy. Any insight would be great.

How to set a Speed Dial

I just go this phone (upgrade from the HTC Hero). How do you set a Speed Dial associated to one of the 9 numeric keys? I only see the favorite (star) option which I personally do not like. Any info would be great.

is it just me....

Anyone else sort of confused on why AT&T doesn't pick up or reguest Motorola to develop higher end Droid handsets?

Is it to not steal the thunder from the iphone or is there a deal with Verizon to keep the uber nice Driods away?

When will android 2.2 be available for the transform

Like the transform, but according to the reviews the LG optimus will run much faster with android 2.2, if the transform were to get it, would it be better than the LG optimus?

Speakerphone?

I've been testing the Epic and one bid issue I've had with it is that Samsung placed the Speaker on the bottom of the phone such that when you're holding the phone in your hand and you try to use the speaker- it's useless cuz you're covering it up! Looks like the same issue here. How lame.

Reminds me of Moto doing that w/some of the Razors. The Zio doesn't have that problem nor to many other brands. Speaker is at the top where is should be! Come'on Samsung...

Sprint ID

Apparently you can pick and choose what parts of the ID packs you want to keep, so that should keep your phone from being full of bloatware.

I am rather concerned that the My ID function, which is pre-installed and cannot be removed, may drain the battery. I guess we'll see.

Interesting..

My main question is will it get 2.2?

The front camera is nice but odds are you have to be in a very good 3G area or on Wifi, though I could be wrong.
