New HTC widgets

Just checked out the new HTC widgets released today. Nothing really special. The battery widget is nice. Dice is crap. Not really interested in the Today in History or the Tip Calculator.

Can someone suggest some apps?

I've had this phone for a week now and I must say I absolutely LOVE it. Ringdroid and taskiller were no brainer downloads. I've tried search thru the market and find it unbearably tedious. Anybody got a few cool apps they would like to suggest.

Does the HTC Droid Eris have any type of GPS navigation at all?

I have been on the phone with Verizon Wireless on and off all day. I was told that the HTC Droid Eris does not have Google maps Navigation, that it just has Google maps Latitude. Does anyone know what in the world that is, if it gives some sort of navigation? If it does not, would someone tell me if that device has any navigation app at all? I was told by customer service that I can not download VZNavigator onto it.

Silent TEXT notification??

I just got the Droid Eris from Verizon and so far I really like it. Question, is there away to set notification like TEXT messages to silent? I still want the notification in the status bar but I don't want any sound and I don't see this option.

One more thing, any good sites that you can talk about apps? I would like to know the difference between the free "Advanced Task Killer" and the $5 version.

Thanks

MAC COMPATIBLE?

Can anyone tell me if this phone is MAC compatible? Also, what is the manual setting for email set at the lowest? 1 minute? seconds?

Thank you!

Any difference in buying Eris now or after 2.0 or 2.1 update?

I want to buy a Verizon Android phone in the next few months and am very interested in the Eris but wanted the Google navigation. Now that the update has been announced would there be any difference in buying the current Eris now and getting the update when it comes out.

Or would it be better to wait and get an Eris that is sold after the update?

I don't mind waiting if there is a benefit.

Thanks to all.

Returned after 1 1/2 Weeks

Well I was the first one in line to buy this phone and was very excited.

I came from an iphone 3GS and knew this was not the iphone killer but hoped it was close.

From the start I had issues retrieving email from my personal email account. I was forced to sign up for Gmail in order to use this phone.

The phone has issues DL attachments from Gmail and kept showing a blue question mark in place of the attachment. In my Verizon mail client the attachments would hang forever or fail to load from the server.

Neither Verizon nor Motorola could figure it out and said they were out of ideas.

Today it took 40 minutes to retrieve my email and then an error appeared at the top of the screen stating an error had occurred and then poof my ...

Brigade, Conviy, Choco Touch, come with voice email

A little known app found in the Media Center catalog -> Email category, makes the Brigade, Convoy, and Choco Touch a bit easier to use for email. The app is called Vemail and it is a mobile email app that lets you speak email and get many attachment types (document, images, audio, but not video).

ANY navigation at all???

I know this little doo-hickey doesn't have google maps Navigation, but does it offer ANY type of navigation at all? I need that feature badly and would like to know before I spend my energy upgrading to this phone and then being disappointed.
Thanks!

Google turn-by-turn maps

You said that once the Eris gets Android 2.0, it will have the same software features as the Moto Droid. Does that include the free Google turn-by-turn map navigation? Probably wishful thinking...

Eris -initial impressions

Have had my Eris for 2 days now and figured I's give my first impressions of it.

In fairly light use I'm getting good battery life (24+ hrs between charges). This is with wi-fi on, some calls, some texting, playing some music and a little web surfing. We'll see if this changes next week when I'm back at work (truck driver) and 3G is always on.

No problems connecting to computer to transfer files (with a Windows 7 system).

Touchscreen keyboard is nice in landscape (sideways) mode. Large keys, easy to adapt to for me as I never had a touchscreen before.

So far the only issues I have are the wi-fi doesn't always stay connected when phone is in sleep mode (a couple screen taps and it connects again but it is set to stay on) and the s...

Just ordered the Eris and now I'm wondering...

how much different is Android 1.5 from 2.0? I hated the look of the Droid, so that was a dealbreaker. The Eris is just so sexy and sleek. But I'm wondering if I'm missing out by not getting the phone with 2.0. Any thoughts?

WordPerfect, Compass and level

I was unable to open an attachment in WordPerfect. Is there an app or other way to get this done?
Also, I read a review that said the Eris had a compass and a level. I don't see these (although Google Maps may well include the compass). Are they included are these in an app?
I am a first time smartphone owner and could not be more pleased with my Eris. Am a little confused over the ways to achieve improved battery life, but will wait until I have used it a while before pursuing any of these.
BTW, the link for the User Guide is :
