PWND!!!

...

In 6 months you're going to hear a conversation that goes like this

Guy 1: "What iPhone is that?"
Guy 2: "This isn't the iPhone THIS is the Palm Pre!"
Guy 1: "I've never heard of the Palm Pre."
Guy 2: "That's because the iPhone 3GS came out before anyone heard of the Pre"
Guy 1: "Do you like it"
Guy 2:"ehh, I would rather have the 3GS but I bought into the hype that everyone was making about the Pre"
Guy 1: "Isn't that what you did with the Blackberry Storm too?"
Guy 2:"Don't remind me"

Signal Issue

"On more than one occasion while testing, the "EV" symbol that sits next to the signal strength indicator changed to "R". The user manual tells me this means the Pre was roaming. In all the years I've tested Sprint phones, I have never seen one roam before. The Pre couldn't perform ANY network-dependent activities when the "R" symbol was present. This is goofy behavior that could be attributed to my review unit in particular and it is likely something that could be fixed with a firmware update. I have pinged Palm and Sprint about the issue, but have yet to hear a response.

Rebooting the phone did take care of the problem."

Did you ever receive any response from Palm or Sprint regarding this signal issue? It seems nearly, if not, all...

Palm Pre Lacks

Examined the Palm Pre in a Best Buy store. I was expecting great things if Palm is expecting this phone to save them! Man, I was very disappointed. There was nothing about this phone that I think will make people want to buy it. My prediction is that Palm is going to end up sucking eggs with this one!!

Print Screen/Screen Capture on Pre to make any picture a wallpaper

You can screen capture any screen image that is on your screen. So if there is a picture you find online that you want to save as a screen saver this is how you do it.

Step 1) Zoom in on the image that you want to save so that it takes up your entire screen

Step 2) Press "orange key", "symbol key", and "p"....your picture is now saved (there will not be any notification that it was saved)

Step 3) Go to your picture albums and there will be a new album called Screen Captures

Thinking about switching to Sprint for this device, but not convinced

So I went into the Sprint store, and they had two Palm Pre's Left. I really like the idea of the phone and I've always been a palm fan ( I prefer Blackberry's but the Palm OS has always appealed to me as well), and there were things I really liked about the phone. Flicking applications, the screen, the OS, all seemed very cool. But the thing that makes me hesitant is the build of the phone. It felt cheap. The back which was shiny and sleek, felt like cheap plastic. The worse part was the keypad though. Felt like a child's plaything, really cheap and plasticky. So I would like some educated reasons why I should leave my Blackberry Curve 8900 to get the Pre. (and please don't mention the network, I am aware Sprint's Network is alot better than...

Duplicate Contact Entries After Backup Restored to Pre #2

I had to return my 1st Pre after the screen got stock open and would no longer slide shut (posted a thread yesterday about it) but after receiving the new phone and logging in to the Palm Profile to restore all the backed up information I noticed that many, if not all, of my phone contacts have duplicates. Some of them seemed to have linked themselves together automatically while the others are seen twice in the contacts list. It only did it for phone numbers though and not email addresses so not EVERY contact has a duplicate. Is there anyway to fix this without manually going through and deleting every other phone number in my contacts??? It looks like my last backup was at 10:30pm last night which was a few hours after I got my new phone s...

You sure can tell who never owned the phone.

Some idiots that post useless junk and try to pass it off as a review is beyond me. You never owned the phone then don't comment because you can't comment on playing with a phone for 5 minutes. Give me a break. Go play on some other forum.

Screen Stuck Open! HELP please!

My Pre took a tumble on to the ground and now my screen is stuck in the open position with the keyboard exposed. It starts to slide closed about 1cm but then stops, and even with a medium amount of pressure it won't slide back in. Obviously I'm afraid to push too hard for fear of breaking it. Unfortunately upon taking the fall the phones plastic coating that coats the front sliding half of the phone cracked a bit along the upper right corner just above the charging port so I'm afraid they may not replace the phone free of charge.

Any thoughts? I do have insurance but there's a $100 deductible so obviously I don't want to pay this. Being a brand new phone could I claim it was defective even with the small crack in the plastic coating? C...

Palm OS emulator for Palm Pre

Hello. I just found out this morning that there is an emulator for the Palm Pre to be able to run Palm OS. I thought I'd pass this along. I'd be interested in your experience. I have a Palm Centro but will be able to upgrade to Palm Pre in a year.

I LOVE MY PRE!!!

Picked it up at 8am this morning. Out of the box and using it for a few hours now, all I can say is WOW!!! Quite a few reviews have been WAY off base. It is not at all a "cheap" feel...The slider is GREAT...Keyboard is small, but a non-issue and works fine...Screen is AWESOME.

Palm has a hit a home run. I will try to post a review when phonescoop allows us to.

Had to return mine

Well the day has come. I tried to hold off and remain a Palm loyalist but I can no longer do it. I really wish they kept the 700 body but slimmer. More importantly I cant create distribution lists for texting and emails. Ok, for some reason my girlfriend can forward texts on her free phone but I can't on this flagship, cutting edge of technology phone, come on Palm are you serious. This isn't the phone for the power user. I've had to reactivate my curve, no problems. Sorry Palm but unless you pay more attention to the blackberry model it will be hard to gain an advantage in the smartphone market. I'm sure that there will be updates, I just don't have time to wait. Apple waited 2+ years before you can cut and paste on the iphone. If ...

Get 1000's of apps for PRE now!!!

As many of you heard, SDK apps for the Pre won't be coming until late this summer. Follow this link from your Pre to access 1000's of apps that that were made for iPhone before they got SDK apps.

alarm clock question

I am a blackberry curve user and the one feature I love about my blackberry curve is that I can power off the phone at night with the alarm set at 6AM. The Blackberry Curve automatically power ons at 6AM to sound the alarm.
Does the Palm Pre have this same function? Believe it or not, the alarm clock function is going to be the deal breaker for me.

I can't even find the palm pre on radio shack website nor with a plan at best buy.

Instant Messaging

😲 After hours of reviewing and even a visit to the Sprint store, I was unable to come across an instant messaging app for the Palm Pre. I'm aware that Palm's app catalog is still beta but does anyone know whether or not if this phone will ever have an instant messaging app such as: AIM, Yahoo, etc. I was really looking forward to purchasing this phone at the end of the week, but all the threads on here are making me think otherwise. Is there really no micro sd insert on the phone to provide better memory?

File Storage/ Install

How does it work for the Pre...

I had a Treo that required users to transfer data/programs via Palm's Quick Install tool.

I now have a PPC Mogul that basically acts as an external hard drive which allows me to drag & drop files at will.

Thanks for the info!

How to add Color category tabs in calendar

As a Palm 680 user one of the features used most often was the color tabs category on the calender. The Sprint reps I spoke at the store told me it was also in the Pre but the only color options are the Palm calendar or google calendar. Does any know if there is a work around or update to add the feature?
