Upgrade to WM6 to get 3G

From the press release:

http://investor.palm.com/pressdetail.cfm?ReleaseID=2 ... »

Palm, Inc. today announced that an update to the Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system will be available for Treo(TM) 750 smartphone customers around the world. The Treo 750 is available from carriers in the United States, Europe and Asia and remains a key part of Palm's international expansion strategy to make Treo smartphones available to more customers. For AT&T customers, the update also will facilitate High-speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) capability - allowing faster data-download speeds on 3G/UMTS/HSDPA networks.

I'd love to hear from anyone who does this once the upgrade is available, particularly, if they've noticed a chang...

Google Mobile Maps and GPS

A friend of mine asked me to help him to get a bluetooth GPS working with his Google Mobile Maps.

http://www.google.com/gmm/index.html »

I thought I'd print out the setup for you folks:

Download google maps (URL above) to your Treo.

Turn on your bluetooth GPS device and make sure it is ready to sync.

Set up your phone to use the GPS as follows:

Start/Settings/Connnections/Bluetooth
Check the "Turn on Bluetooth" checkbox.
Press the Device tab.
Press "Add new device..."
select your GPS device and press Next.
Check the "Serial Port" checkbox and press Finish.
Press the COM Ports tab.
Press "New outgoing port..."
Select your device and press Next.
You will see a COM port that has been chosen for your GPS. For example, ...

WM6

So when this thing actually goes through for us normal users out here, will M$ offer a free update or charge to update WM5 to WM6? I know this should probably be in a general forum and the question may have been asked already but I just wanted to get some feedback/comments/opinions, on what was going to happen, if anyone had an idea. When they do release, how many are going to jump ship on first release and how many are going to wait a bit? IDK just trying to see what the rest of the mobile world thinks.

Treo 750 Battery Life - The Real Story?

I am a Treo 650 user and am considering an upgrade to the 750. I have read conflicting reports on battery life. I have talked to two 680 users who said their battery life was unacceptable. I am curious if the 750 is really any better? I am receiving a fair amount of email during the day. Thanks for your opinion.

Dropped Calls

I have also noticed the dropped calls. It only happens when UMTS is engaged. I have set the band to GSM instead of auto. I have not had one call drop while on GSM. I hope that the update for HSPDA will correct this.

You should test furthur selecting between the GSM and UMTS band.

As the Treo 750 is one of the best devices I have ever used.

Nice review

Is there a way to...

Ok I just bought this phone and I am having some reservations about it, lol. First is there a way to either download music tones (aka ringtones) or to use mp3 files in the media player as ringtones? That is a big draw back for me, however silly that may sound. Secondly, is there a way to create shortcuts to things like messaging so that I don't have to go through the menu's? Any help is appreciated, I may end up selling this on e bay, because it's a little different than what I wanted I think...

Using Cingular Video, is it possible?

I have the new RAZR V3xx with 3G for Cingular. I can access Cingular Video on it. The Treo 750 has no buttons for this. Is there someway to have this mobile access Cingular Video?

Sounds like an area problem...

I mean, TWO Treos that drop calls in the same vicinity?

Seeing as no one else has reported these problems, it seems like hardware is fine...it's just your the location of the test.

Treo 750 vs. 8525???

I'm currently a Sprint user and definitely wanting to switch over to Cingular. The question is which PDA phone do i go with??? I currently have the Treo 700wx by Sprint and like it, however, i'm wanting something different. I saw Cingular had the 750 and was amazed at what i saw. One of the sales rep. told me about the 8525 and how it's definitely more worth the money by it have a 2 mp camera, WI-FI, etc...

For those of you out there, what do you guys think? Are buttons on the 750 accidently hit while being in your case or in general? That's one main problem i'm seeing with my 700wx, while it's in my case it'll make calls on its own. So when i pull it out to text or make a call myself, i'll see that it's been active for like 10 m...

CNet Review - Fact or Fiction?

The Cnet review for the Treo 750 says the phone is the first Treo that will work on Cingular's 3G UMTS network. But then it says that they are disappointed that "it will not support Cingular's HSPDA network at launch."

Is this true? And if so what does it mean? That we wont be cruising along at 3G speeds with email and web browsing?\

And if so, when will it support the HSPDA network?

Call handling issues with 3G border coverage, here's the scoop! 750 & 8525

With much testing using both the 8525 and Treo 750 concerning these issues, I was able to determine the problem. Unlike the 8525, I was happy to see the Treo 750 has the ability to correct this issue with the option to select your band for auto, GSM, or UMTS.

I live on the border of UMTS coverage outside Nashville TN and this is a MAJOR problem at home. My UMTS signal strength in my home office is about 1 bar, but when the phone switches to GSM it's almost full strength. My 750, if left alone and untouched on the desk, will default to UMTS and will stay there if I don't walk around the house on a call. When a call is in progress, if the call started within UMTS and switches to GSM during the call, all sorts of issues arise. I don't drop c...
