New to Sprint and Question on this phone

I am thinking about changing from Verizon to Sprint soon but wanted to check out some things first.
1) Does Sprint offer 1 year agreements?

2)Are any data downloads free after 7pm? For example if I transfer pics and music from my PC do I get charged anything other then the .15 per message?

3)About the Samsung M500--can anyone who has this phone tell me if the external screen stays on all the time when the phone is opened and you are actually on a call?

Thanks in advance.

well i know this is the same on other sprint phone, atleast power vision phone for as far as i know.
But when i go and download a ringtone, for example it says expires in 90 days. Does that mean the ringtone only last 90 days on my phone?

Text Messages - Please help - any info is better than none....

* How many text messages does the phone hold in the inbox and outbox?
* How many text messages can you select to send at the same time?
* Also, has anyone else ever gone from a blackberry or pda (keyboard) to this phone and how does it compare in terms of speed to type a message?
* Can you sync your phone to your computer so you won't lose your contacts if something happens to your phone?

keeping the external lcd on?

When I was playing with an m500 at the local sprint kiosk yesterday, I noticed when I closed the phone the backlight on the lcd shuts off after about 3 seconds, and then the entire lcd shuts off about 3 seconds after that, so when the phone is closed you can't see the time at all.

I hunted through the menu (and the sprint employees did too) but they couldn't find a way to keep the external LCD on. Is there a way somehow?

(Also, they told me that this phone was going to come in red, and that they had one out in a car but it wasn't available to be sold yet)

Music Files

Hi,
Can I load mp3 music files into a Music folder on the memory card and play them through the media player, or do I need to convert them to a different file extension?
Thanks

Alarm Delay?

Does anyone else experience a delay in the alarm clock feature? When I set my alarm for 4:00am, the alarm will ring at 4:00 and 8 or 10 seconds. On my A900, the alarm will ring right at the turn of the hour. Is this normal for the M500 or is it that my phone might be defective?

how transfer ringtones via USB?

How do I transfer ringtones from my PC to my phone?

I can connect to my PC fine and I'm able to transfer files (mp3) to mass storage. I can transfer pictures from the phone using windows explorer. So, I seem to be having success on how getting files to/from the phone from/to my PC.

I have used file manager to move files from the card to the phone. However, file manager doesn't show any directories on the phone other than "DCIM" and "BLUETOOTH". I can't see where the ringtones are kept.

how to install java apps via USB

How can I install a Java app using USB?

This question may be related to my other posting on ringtones, but I suspect its a little different, so I've created another thread.

I'm assuming the Java app must be a MIDLet. I've created one of those and its works fine in the emulator that comes with the Sun Java Toolkit.

I can connect to the PC fine and transfer files to the card. I can transfer files to the phone using file manager, but I don't see the directory where the other java apps are installed (i.e. games). In addition, I expect there may be other things that need to be done (register?). Has anyone been able to install a java app on the m500? If so, please post detailed instructions.

PC Sunc

I've purchased the M500 and found that there is no existing PC Sync software - Checked FutureDial, Samsung and Sprint. No one seems to know how to easily import contact lists from the PC. As for the wirelessbackup service from sprint - they forgot that need and, btw, it also drops phone numbers when receiving info from the M500. Kind of defeats the purpose of a backup. If anyone knows what PC Sync capable software is available, please let me know. Please don't mention the Contact Copier from Samsung, its ver 1.0 and does not recognize the usb connected phone.

Also the # of 'entries" is 500 but each name, phone number and email is a separate 'entry". In other words you will only get about 120 to 150 records into the device.

Setting up A2DP

Hello
I am wondering if anyone has instructions on how to get the A2DP working on the M500. I have tried 2 different headsets one of them being the WEP200 and a Sony 608. I want to listen to my mp3's through bluetooth and I cannot get it to work. There is an option in the media player that says bluetooth and when I select it I pick headset and it says no device attached. I have the headset paired correctly and it works for everything else except A2DP. Please help me it is driving me crazy!!!

m500 rings soft when open

Is anyone m500 has the same problem / feature that when it is left open the phone rings soft. When the headset is plugged in and is open it rings loud. Did not have this problem on other Samsung phones A840, A680, A460 that I owned.

Any secret setting or menu to get around this?

thanks

over in the "2006 Holiday Pre-Preview" discussion:

Looking for smartphone compatible with verizon.

I'm looking to purchase a smartphone or something that is very compatiable with outlook. The best one would be a small flip phone - have a speakerphone and bluetooth. I am currently using verizon and would like to continue but the only thing I see is the cingular star trek phone. Are there any other alternatives coming out?

Sanyo versus Samsung

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the differences in quality between Sanyo and Samsung cell phones.
I'm comparing the Sanyo 6600 Katana and the Samsung M500 and seem to find a lot of people on Cnet review saying that Sanyo in general builds better quality phones than Samsung.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

How to make a song into a ringtone?

I just got a Samsung SPH-M500 (after having the same cell phone for about 5 years...) Clearly I'm new to the up-to-date technology. I'm trying to make a song from my computer (in mp3 format) into a ringtone. However, I can't seem to make it happen. The song works fine when the phone is used as an mp3 player, but the only ringtone "personalization" I can perform is from a video (taken by the phone) or a downloaded ringtone. Do I have to save it to a specific file/file folder in the removable card or something?

Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
