Nokia Drops 'Symbian' Name, Plans Belle Updates

Dec 21, 2011, 8:58 AM   by Eric M. Zeman

Nokia has changed the name of its legacy Symbian platform from Symbian Anna/Bell to Nokia Anna/Belle. In a recent blog post about smartphone software updates, Nokia called the upcoming Belle update Nokia Belle and in parenthesis said "previously Symbian Belle." The company did not make a formal announcement about a branding change, however. Nokia also noted that Nokia Belle will be rolled out to a number of devices currently running Nokia Anna. Nokia said that the Nokia N8, C7, and C6-01 will be sold with Belle preinstalled moving forward, and that Belle will be distributed to the existing user base of the N8, E7, E6, X7, C6-01, C7, and Oro handsets starting in February. Belle boosts the number of home screens from three to six and improves the performance of home screen widgets.
