Samsung Offering Beta Trial of Its Media Hub

Samsung today announced a new beta trial offering of its Media Hub movie and TV content store. The beta trial is available only to the AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S II Android smartphone to start. Though Sansung's Media Hub is installed on a number of its Galaxy-branded devices, this trial is different in that it allows participants to share and view the Media Hub Beta content on their 2011 Samsung Smart TVs. Samsung said that the initial selection of movie and TV content will be limited, and that the company is looking for feedback from participants on how the service works. Samsung that it will give select participants a $25 credit towards content purchases. Samsung said that this beta trial is the first in a series of programs and services that it plans to release over the next few months.

AT&T today revealed that its variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II Android smartphone will go on sale October 2 for $199.99 with a new two-year agreement.

Skype Expands Video Chat Feature to More Androids

Skype has provided an update to its Android application that adds the video chatting feature to a large number of new Android handsets. Skype notes that Gingerbread is required to use the video chat feature, so owners of the following phones are encouraged to make sure their system is up to date. The new handsets are: the Acer A5; the HTC Desire, Thunderbolt, Sensation, EVO 4G, EVO 3D, Incredible S, Desire HD, Flyer; the LG Revolution; the Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, Droid Charge, Galaxy Tab; and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Xperia ray, and Xperia mini pro. The update is free to install.
