Blackberry with Verizon

I am thinking about buying a Blackberry and using it with Verizon. I have been told by several friends that the voice quality of a Blackberry is not nearly as good as it is for most standard cell phones. I want to be able to get my email but voice quality is very important to me. Is that true, because I need good voice characteristics for my business.

Thanks for any information.

I have never had a problem with the voice quality on my Blackberry.

It's been my experience that Blackberry's stink as phones. Their speakers do not get loud enough for noisey environments. The UI for the phone is awful. In low light trying to see the little buttons on the keypad is no fun. Also, if the keypad is locked and you receive a phone call you cannot change the volume or hang up until you unlock the keypad.

For email, they're okay. Wireless web, they're okay. As a PDA, so-so but half-brained compared to a modern PocketPC or Palm.

If you're spending your own money on this give serious consideration to a Bluetooth-enabled phone and PDA combo. Get a data plan for the phone and then you can use it as a wireless modem for the PDA or even a PC if you want. It's not push-mail. You'll have to...

I have had unacceptably bad voice quality on my Blackberry, using AT&T service. It is inconsistent, but frequently poor enough for people to complain to me about it. I can't tell if it is a service problem or a Blackberry problem, but the end result is the same to me. It is a shame, because what attracted me to the Blackberry was the convenience of email and phone in one package. I will be replacing it with a good phone.

Sound quality is great. This device has a specific use for corporate individuals who need instant communication and a solid device for that. If this is not you than get some toy described in prior post.

I have a BlackBerry 7280 with Cingular, and the voice quality is very poor. I don't believe it is a result of the network or carrier, but just the RIM phone. I can hear others just fine, but if there is any ambient noise like when driving a car, nearly everyone I talk to complains about the noise and they claim it sounds like I am in a wind tunnel. A coworker of mine tried hte 7100 and said the same thing about it.

They are great for data access, but I think I am going to use a different phone for voice.

I have been using the Blackberry for years. Up until 2 or 3 weeks ago, bever for voice, only for email.

One day I decided to abandon the Batman utility belt and go to one device. So away went the PDA, former Blackberry (Nextel 7520) and Verizon Cell (Motorola V710) phone and I now have one device, a Blackberry 7250 by Verizon. My "negatives" are as follows.

1) The phone ringer is low and heard to hear in noisy environments. Part of this may be that I don't have the best hearing in the world.

2) The earpiece volume is also painfully low. Same comments as point 1.

*To combat some of these issues, I use the BT option in my car and I just got a Plantronics Discovery 640 goes in the ear) BT device.

3) Battery life is so-so.

Get the 7130c. Use the classic phone ringer and you will never miss a call ringing in. Ever.

Any combo pda/phone should use a headset. Using bricks as phones IS dorkier than any bluetooth headset. 7100 series is great on headset.

The 7130 is great to manuever through while on calls or off them. The reception is improved greatly over the brick styles and it is a great phone when not being used as a pda.

Good Luck
