The problems are not really hardware related, but software. I had reception problems with mine and it jumped back and forth between Edge and 3G. Mine also dropped calls badly too. There is an update for the software that you can download that has solved all of these problems for me. All you have to do is go to Settings (the picture of the wrench in the menu, then Advanced options, then Wireless Update. Follow the instructions on the screen and it takes form 45-90 minutes (depending on the signal you are receiving on the phone.)

It is well worth the time to do this upgrade. Not only does it solve the reception problems, but gives you the opportunity to turn off 3G and only use Edge if you are in a fringe area or an area with no 3G. Another neat feature of the software upgrade is that you will now have Visual Voice Mail.This allows you to see any voicemail messages that are left and choose on the phone which ones you want to listen to. You will have to call Customer Care to get this activated and you will have to reset up your voicemail. Again, this feature is worth the hour or so to download the upgrade. Don't be afraid of this phone, it is a good one. It just needs the right software to get it working right.
