I suppose a GSM Sanyo handset would be too much to ask for.

They have them in Japan... If you go on Ebay search just sanyo, then go to the phones only part on the left, then go highest listing prices and you'll see GSM ones... They are amazing, but doubtful they will ever reach America as GSM.. Cingular or Tmobile dont seem to want to have anything to do with them, they are happy with there Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, and LG... So I'm guessing no but you can order one overseas, just wont be able to use the internet function... So yeah...

It has nothing to do with VZW\Tmobile\Cingular wanting nothing to do with them. It has everything to do with Sprint and Sanyo having an exclusive partnership together.

Sprint gave Sanyo a chance to make handsets for them way back when, when no one else would. According to our Sanyo rep, Sanyo is still a very traditional company when it comes to issues of that nature and they have remained loyal to Sprint since.

Which is good, because that means all of Sanyo's US division R&D goes into Sprint handsets and Sprint handsets alone, which is just one reason why Sanyo handsets perform as they do.

I just wish they would add folder support to their phonebooks :\
