Phone software upgrade (Timeport 270c)
I bought a Timeport 270c on Ebay for my Verizon account. the phone was originally used on an Alltel network. after registering the ESN with Verizon the reception was spotty and it kept dropping calls. Verizon said the software needed to be updated from the Alltel version but they were unable to do it for me.
Motorola says it can't be done from one carrier to another.
I don't believe them!! anyone had any luck flashing the memory?

Motorola definitely won't do it - tried and failed. And my 270C came back filthy with greasy fingerprints all over it. I'll never send them anything again.
Did you update your PRL (*228, option 2)? The SW version, in my experience, doesn't make a difference with reception, but who knows. Get another one on Ebay and ask the seller to tell you the SW version beforehand. Scour Usenet about 2 years back for threads on 270C firmware and you'll get all the numbers you need.
BTW, don't believe anyone who says the "latest Verizon firmware doesn't support bluetooth" - it's a bunch of hooey. I've used a 270C with the latest verizon firmware for years with bluetooth.

I LOOOOOVE my 270c. I switch back & forth between that, a V60s, a T720c & a Samsung A650, and I always go back to the Timeport. I think this was one of the last REALLY reliable Motos out there. I haven't tried it with the BT gadget, though. How does it work? Seamlessly? Or is it a bit of a kludge? I might have to see if I can find one on eBay.
If you have a 270C you should definitely be using bluetooth! The adapters are cheap now - MOT was selling them on their web site for $30 awhile back.
As far as your questions go...it's pretty seamless with devices using DUN (Palm, PC's, Pocket PC's, etc.). Headsets can be more problematic - the only one that really worked well for me is the Motorola headset (I've used both ...
