Has Nokia conceded the U.S. market?

I can remember just a couple of years ago when it seemed like every carrier out there offered at least two or three Nokia models. Most companies had at least an entry-level and a mid-level Nokia model. Now it seems like the only company with even two Nokia models is AT&T. What gives? I am a firm believer in Nokia's quality manufacturing and I really hope they haven't given up on the American consumer.

I think there is a few reasons why Nokia isn't marketed well here. Number one is Nokia really specializes in GSM phones so the CDMA companies like Verizon, Sprint and Alltel don't embrace Nokia. Two is GSM companies such as AT&T and T-Mobile look to cheaper phones from the likes of Samsung, LG,and Motorola for there mass marketing to individual and family plans and look to Windows Mobile smartphones and Blackberries for corporate customers. A third point to make is, Nokia appears to be willing to settle for marketing their high-end N series phones unlocked in the U.S. at this time which per unit is a high profit item. Nokia seems to be concentrating on emerging markets such as India, China and the such.

Nokia seems to get better ratings with their candy bar style phones versus their clamshell phones.

I just checked AT&T's four Nokias, and the 2610, the only candy bar phone, has far better ratings.
