I just dropped and busted my BELOVED LGVX4500...

So without thinking I buy this new fancy LGVX8300.

Come to find out, it is just about USELESS to me since I cannot use the speaker phone when the phone is CLOSED, as in DRIVING MODE!!!

Now the store where I bought the phone says they discontinued this because people complained.

Well I can't imagine this! This is true handsfree mode without having to use some dumb earpiece that you need to keep track of, and also when I find myself in the radio studio or the statehouse I don't have to open the phone and make noise while fishing for the vibrate button. You simply press a button on the outside.

It is THE MOST AWKWARD thing to walk around with the phone in speaker mode, OPEN positio...

All my buds and my secondary # are on Verizon and I survive on V to V free calls and I'm on the phone all day for my work. I did call LG and they said many complaints mean they will put it back soon.

Imagine having this fancy LG VX 8300 that does video, takes photos, records sounds, but DOESN'T HAVE DRIVING MODE?

USELESS!

I use the phone on NOTHING BUT driving mode, even in the house, because I don't want it up to my ear.

I just bought a 4500 and 4650 and will keep both and that ought to hold me until LG/Verizon come to their senses. Bluetooth sucks, it's not very clear and you have to lug more equipment around.

😕

OK well, nice try.

The LG 4500 from eBay came. It is NOT a real 'LG' but looks to be a knockoff and is definitely NOT NEW. But it works so I kept it..

The voice slowly and sweetly says, "Call from restricted number, do you want to connect"? You can say YES and it will, and you can pull out the ear wire and your phone stays closed. So I figure I'll keep this one for a spare.

Meanwhile I go to the store and they have the LG VX 4650 for me. Looks great. I get it set up then get in the supermarket with the earwire in. A call comes through. Instead of the above, I get the same high pitched screaming repetitious "Call from restricted number, Call from restricted number, Call from restricted number, Call from restricted number," that I go...

Cingular has the LGCU400 and the LGCG300. They have one touch speaker buttons on the top of the phone. You have to open the phones to answer a cal, push the speaker button and close the phone and talk until the caller hangs up and your are done. It hangs up when the caller hangs up. You would love it. I have the LGCG300 and love it. Hope this helps. plmassey

Can someone explain how that works on this phone?

I did not see that you could set it on vibrate from the OUTSIDE, which is handy when you find yourself in a place that must have quiet.

Also, with the headset wire plugged in, does it ASK you if you want to connect and you say YES without having to open up the phone?

Otherwise it's not true Driving Mode.

OK I've figured out the difference in the 4500 and 4650 driving modes...

The 4500's depends on the earwire. It must be plugged in to cause the phone to speak out to you "Call from restricted number, do you want to connect?" It is soft, sweet and you have time to say YES. I use a broken earwire in the house. I can shout from across the room "YES" and the phone will answer. I simply then pull out the wire and the phone works CLOSED. I don't miss any calls that way....

However, if the wire is not in when that happens, it doesn't ask me if I want to connect, just announces. You then have to open the phone. If you then want to use it shut, you have to plug in the wire, shut the phone, then pull the wire out! This was my routine...but at lea...

You are not going to believe this!

I am now using the 4650 and I like how it has the speaker in the front. It's a very pretty phone and I like how you can add contacts by voice, etc..I am overall very satisfied with it, save for the one flaw...

That only flaw was that for some reason you cannot say 'YES' to answer the phone when it is closed like with the 4500. You have to open it, and by that time, you may as well just 'press any key' to answer since your fingers are already in there...this is not really conducive to answering while driving, thus I don't think they should even call it driving mode.

Anyway, I decided I would keep the phone I bought on eBay, which was a knockoff of the 4500, but does everything the 4500 does with reg...
