Text entry -- word mode

Need a good explanation or online tutorial of how to use Word mode when entering text in a text message.

I have an LG VX8600, which I love.

But can't figure out how to use the Word mode properly -- don't understand the logic of how/why the different letters come up based on what I've entered.

Anyone know of more detailed instructions than what comes with the phone? Or a link to an online demo?

Thanks much
