Getting USA Browser to work on European SGH-D520 Slide Phone

Bought two unlocked phones online and they work fine on AT&T voice and text but display:

"Service unavailable"

trying to use the browser. Does anyone know about settings I can tweak or is this phone just dead on arrival in the US?

Any help appreciated.
