Data usage monitors

The Phoenix

Anybody have any experience with any data usage monitoring apps? I'm often dealing with customer either lying or just ignorant to what is/isn't using data. I have heard there are apps that will break down which specific apps have used how much data. I am going to try some out so I know what I can recommend to customers so they can see exactly where the data is going, and wondered if there was anything anybody on here would recommend.

I have no control over what crap phones sales dumps onto the customers. I followup on tech issues such as "unknown data usage". I also work for a company who does not offer any current handsets with ICS. โ˜น๏ธ

I was able to find one on the Android Market (Google Play) called Onavo, it is a free app that shows how much data is being used by an application and gives suggestions on what you should do to lower your data usage as well as allows you to set how much your plan is, (MRC and data allowance) as well as when your billing cycle starts. This could be used for customers..... I have only tested it for about 2 days now. So I don't know how accurate it is. But it seems to track it pretty well so far.

I also found one of Data Manager Free. In Google Play. It did the same thing and allowed you to create a pie graph showing how much was being used. It has an area where it tracks your mobile data vs. Wifi.... Only problem I saw with that one is it ...

So far after testing them for a couple weeks My Data manager free seems to be the best option monitors all the data usage used and shows which programs are using the most as well as it can tell you what programs are "Data Hogs" would highly recommend this to help customers understand how their data is being used.

Would an app like this unduly affect battery life?

I haven't noticed any noticable different either, My battery meter ranks it as one of the lowest processes on the amount of battery usage. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but the data usage monitor we decided was the best, My Data Manager (Free) also has in the settings where it can shut off your data when the usage hits a certain level. I was not aware of this before. I tell customers about this application all the time and didn't know it could automatically do that. As well as you can set daily and montly alarms on the amount of data. It generally notifies you itself when you reach a certain level though.
