I have been ussing android for a few weeks now on my HD2. It is still in test virsions but to be honest you would never know. has anyone els out there done this to there phone. if so what issues have you had. here are a few of my issues.

-sleep of death
-picture mail sometimes will not work

these are the only issues i have had with the latest build. if anyone has anything of use to say let me know.

I installed the latest build of Froyo on my HD2 about a week ago and wasn't very impressed. The GPS wasn't functioning correctly and I was receiving errors when I tried to download apps from the Android market.

I do wish that I could use the barcode feature to identify apps and the skymaps app on android but I guess I'll wait until the bugs are clear.

The other problems I noticed where the lack of backlighting(I use the Barnes and Noble E-reader quite a bit) and the fact that all of my contacts stored in main memory were not accessable.

I know that the SDA team is working to correct these issues and I'll probably try again with a dual boot option in the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, I've actually got to like the Windows...

Thanks,

I searched gamesquare.com but something seemed funny about the site. Do you by chance have a specific url that I could look at?

OK, so I realized that the real web site is http://gamesquare.co.uk (not .com).

So, among the builds available, the options are:

FroyoStone Series by darkstone

Froyo Build by darkstone

HTC Sense (Desire rom)

Standard Android Builds

Do you have any recomendations?

Thanks,
Steve

So, now I'm using fryostone as well and I like it quite a bit but I really got used to Co0kies on my WM rom.

Can you recommend any good desktop management apps that would give a feel like that(allowing you to organize apps a bit better).

Thanks!

So..i reinstalled a different version of Android last night and went through the full setup and after about 2 hours..I got the dreaded sleep of death.

I think that I'll wait another month or two and try it again after more bugs are cleared.

I guess that I can try it again. I also noticed that apps that I wanted like google skymaps would not install correctly.

I will try it a couple more times this weekend and see if I can get it to function correctly without the S.O.D.

I'm hopeful but so far, not impressed with Android on the HD2

Question for you..I'm using the latest HD2 rom upgrade(which I believe is causing conflicts that result in an S.O.D. when I dual boot to android)

I've looked at other WM roms but I'm a bit hesitant to change. What rom are you using now? The one that appeals to me is called the maxsense(elegancia series) but I'm new to this and it's a bit scary.

I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks

well if gamesquare.co.uk has a link to the rom im using. mirv17 is what i think its called. i figured out what to do about your issue with google sky maps not instaling. do this

1.setting > sd and phone > unmount sd

2. install app(google sky maps)

3.setting > phone and sd > mount sd

this should fix any instalation problems your having.

Thanks so much!

You would not believe the hell I went through trying to make this work. I actually found a site that had me download an emulator and type the following in:
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 dev/block/mtdblock4 system
busybox rm system/app/Maps.apk
cd system/bin
sh pm uninstall com.google.android.apps.maps
cd ..
cd ..
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 dev/block/mtdblock4 system
sync

It never worked but I tried it.

Your advice worked perfectly.

Also, I was ready to flash a new WM rom to make android more stable(I actually did flash hspl) but before I shifted roms on wm, I found out that the auto backlight setting in WM is one of the primary reasons that android has been having the sleep of death so now I think ...

Thanks so much..I think I'm up and running for the most part. Now I'm just figuring out things like "scenes" and how to configure everything.

One of the minor problems I have is that I've got all of my contacts on my sim card and haven't figured out yet how to transfer them to my contacts list. I liked having pictures in my old wm rom and I'm sure that there's a way to do it in android and assign ring but I haven't figured it out yet.

I'll keep searching.

Got it. One more question for you Cam..how did you overcome the lack of usb drivers for android in order for Windows to recognize your android rom?

The best I could find on this was an article indicating that I needed to install Android SDK but that seemed a bit of an overkill to allow my computer to recognize the phone and allow me to see the storage device on my computer.

As always, I appreciate any advice.

So, I've actually had android semi-stable for a couple of days now and have enjoyed it for the most part(the live wallpapers and ease of configuration are pretty nice). I'm still getting a couple random errors as follows:

- For some reason, my phone will sound garbled on a random basis or just won't take/receive calls(sometimes it will)

- I get random freezes that aren't a full screen of death but require me to push the home screen button and then go back to the app that froze.

- Although it only happened twice in one day, I did get the screen of death and had to pull the battery out and restart.

So.. I'm not sure if I need to flash a new windows mobile rom to create more stability for the android system. I'm pretty scared to d...

you should be scared, there are some roms out there that are not has good as the one that came with it, but after i changed my rom to the recomended one on gamesquare everything warked much better. sound durring calls was improved 10 fold. android stoped getting SOD at random times and i felt that windows was much more usable as an os after i did the rom change.

worst case you can flash the old rom back and your back to square one.

And which wm rom are you using now? I was thinking about elegancia which was recommended on gamesquare and XDA.

So, I flashed over elegance max sense last night and...it was really colorful and not very user friendly. So, I downloaded the original elegance rom and it was much nicer.

Android has worked great since then except that on my way to work, I tried to call home over the bluetooth in my car and it errored out. My wife tried to call me back and it rang but I was unable to answer.

I really like the feel of Android Froyo(better than wm) but I'm hoping to figure out how to fix the phone errors.

I guess I better check on XDA to see if there are any fixes.

1. connect hd2 to windows

5. when the window pops up change to 64kb

6. add android file to root of sd card

I like the miri rom because it is vary minumal and i belive it make android run better. i think the battery life has alot to do with the fact that i changed my radio to 2.12.50 and this gives me better signal and battery life.

Hi Cam,

I shifted back to the stock upgraded wm rom after trying a couple others. The only thing that I haven't done is change out the radio and I'm thinking that might be the key to fixing this.

I was a bit confused because the radio program that I downloaded from xda developers(and haven't yet installed) was in a format that I didn't recognize(not sure what the extension was at the moment) so I wasn't sure what I needed to do to install it.
