Can I still get the Android? Will it work on GPRS and EDGE networks? Is it still worth it?

I've been salivating over this phone for MONTHS but its only being retailed in 3G markets ☹️

But GD its a sweet looking phone...

Yes you can still get the phone but the T-mobile stores will not be carrying the phone. The stores will carry a demo but you have to order the phone online.

The retail price is $299, others that have upgraded recently, got it, and they paid $299.

I believe the $299 is the partial discount price. The retail price is $399.

$399.00 is full retail. No, customers in areas without 3G coverage will not be able to order it online or through telesales. It sucks I know.

They probably want to cut the headache out before it comes. They know majority of the people that would buy a phone like that in areas not covered in 3G would then complain that the phone doesn't work right and return it.

That is exactly the reason that one of the corporate trainers gave us. We can tell people that they won't get full use from it, and then everyone will callback in screaming that this P.O.S. doesn't work. I am not looking forward to my agents telling people that they can't buy it. I am going to need to change my billing address to get my upgrade. I am not losing my 60%off.

Ok, I found someone in a 3G network to order it for me...

Will the android marketplace work in my dinky non-3G area?

I know I won't get full potential out of the phone, but I am mature enough and have worked wireless enough not to throw a hissy-fit. I just want to make sure I have a grasp on the limitations of the phone before I purchase.

It will work but the web will be really slow. Could be to the point were some programs become almost unusable. But you could always use the wifi.

Good news! They changed there telesales policy on the G1. We can sell it to anybody! 🙂 They won't sell it to us for our upgrades though. ☹️
