I spent about 3 hours on the phone yesterday with Verizon myself for this exact issue. I too had an HTC VX 6800 and liked the windows mobile version. When I called HTC, they indicated that Verizon had the GPS chip "locked down." With that in mind, I had the opportunity to turn mine in for the new Samsung Omnia, because the sales guy I spoke with said it had "GPS." Well...it does and it doesn't. After 3 hours on the phone yesterday with Verizon, including a call directly to Samsung, I determined that Verizon doesn't tell the entire truth when they advertise they have phones that have GPS, which in my personal book is the same as lying or doing the ol bait and switch. What they offer is their own VZ Navigator that you can buy for a fee of something like $9 or $10 per month. The weird part is, why would someone buy something for that price, when they can use google maps and get it for free?

When I mentioned that I believed Verizon was in breach of their contract with me, as I could not fully use the telephone I'd purchased, I was told that "Verizon doesn't guarantee the ability to use third party software." Which in itself is kind of weird as their VZ Navigator is just that.

I'm currently trying work it out, but haven't had much luck yet. I'm hoping these clowns realize that they are seriously impinging on my right to use something I believe I've purchased fairly.

After spending all of this time with the customer service, I asked for a manager to call me back. I was told it would happen the next day. So far, surprise, surpise...it hasn't happened. Take that as you wish.
