Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Upgrade
Just came back from Las Vegas at the CES show and spoke to several Microsoft guys about the new "exciting" Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC OS/Upgrade.
After doing research it turns out that my Siemens SX56 with AT&T Wireless may roll it out soon (1st Quarter 2004), but can't confirm a date yet. T-Mobile allegedly will also release the upgrade soon, but no set date known either.
The new 2003 Pocket PC OS (which by now should be 2004) is very nice. I hope AT&T and T-Mobile actually offer it soon, everybody else is starting to offer the upgrade on www.pocketpc.com.

I have been trying really hard to get onto a Pocket PC-based phone to consolidate my cell phone and PDA.
Right now my carrier is ATT, and they only have GSM devices, which don't cut it in my area.
Does anyone have any experience with the Samsung models and Verizon Service? Doe these operation well as phones or is there some compromises involved in the "PDA with cell anteanna and headphonse jack" devices?

Being that we work with all of the carriers, I know that Verizon works very well. As far as Samsung Pocket PC's, my experience with them have been great. I personally use the T-Mobile Pocket PC which works great, but one of the reasons I like T-Mobile for the Pocket PC is because T-Mobile offers an unlimited data plan for $19.99/month when activated with a voice plan. Coverage is also good with T-Mobile (2nd) overall nationwide. If you don't mind spending more and need the best coverage nationwide, Verizon is your best bet, but overall value comes from T-Mobile. FYI - Most carriers will give you 14 days to try out their service before being locked into the contract. Hope this helps.

Also, any ideas on when the carriers will be upgrading to the newer MS 2003 OS?
Are there other Smart Phones I should be looking at? The only clam shell one that seems workable is the Samsung i600. I have heard that it may have a foldable keyboard accessory, but I can't seem to find it.

To answer your first question, when I say "we" I mean my company (Virtual Office) because we are authorized agents for all of the major nationwide carriers. I am the President of the company, but am very hands on and involved with the day-to-day changes in technologies and devices.
As far as the carriers offering Windows Mobile 2003 software, Verizon and T-Mobile seems to be stepping up to the plate, but AT&T is dragging their feet on this one. Coincidently, Verizon and T-Mobile are the carriers that we have the best experiences with.
When it comes to Smartphones or Pocket PC phones - being that I have both, Pocket PC offers a slightly more robust operating system and ease of use, while the Smartphone versions are a "slim...
