Cingular 8525: Direct Push works with GPRS/EDGE, but NOT UMTS

by TD    Mar 3, 2007, 9:21 AM

Does anyone have an idea why Direct Push email works under GPRS/EDGE, but not when in an area with UMTS (on a Cingular 8525).

I have an older MediaWorks $20 plan that connects to the wap.cingular server. (I thought I used to connect to isp.cingular with an older phone, but it doesn't let me connect now.)

I'm happy that Direct Push works with my "cheaper" data fact, I receive my exchange email on my phone faster than it'll show up in my Outlook Inbox. But it's annoying to lose Direct Push when I travel to an area with UMTS...I must manually send/receive to retrieve new messages. I don't want to call Cingular about the "problem) because I suspect they might try to force me to upgrade to a more pricey data plan (simply because I have a "PDA phone."

Any ideas?
