What the heck is Cingular doing?!

I purchased the 650 two weeks ago and love everything about it except that my corporate IT department won't support a corporate (server based) email connection for it. They will support the 600.

I might add that when I bought the 650 it was off contract and no mention of a data plan was made.

So, really needing a small device that can get me into corporate email is very important to me and I went Saturday and again last night to buy a 600. Mind you I've purchased numerous phones this year and last from Cingular without a contract and without having to sign up for data plans. And yes, that includes pda/smart phones.

The total tools at Cingular refused to sell me the phone without a data plan. They actually had the audacity to yel...

the ever changing technology is a lot to keep up with, there are some of us cingular employees that take pride in what we do and we try very hard to keep up. here at the store i manage we take all possible training that we can and honestly it is stll confusing to me, but i would never get rude with a customer because i didn't know the answer i would get the specifics on what the customer wants and find the right answer. so i just wanted to say not ALL of us are bad.

Khubbard I agree. I work for cingular and all the employess here as well take all the training needed and keep going over products and services so all of us at my store can correctly inform the customer of what they will need as well as other things. Everyone at my store treats customers with the same respect and as courteous as we can. Mobilephonejunkie, i dont know what store you went to or where it was at but not every employee at cingular is like that

I echo the comments here. I switched to Cingular after being with TMobile for many years. I had always been impressed with Tmobile Customer service, and I was a little trepadacious about Cingular given all the horror stories I'd read.

However I switched in a busy mall store and was given excellent customer service (I was in Lincolnwood Illinois) Last night I called CS to get clarification on my account, and Stephanie was as nice as could be. She hot only answered my question but explained to me how Billing codes work in Cingular's system so if my question ever came up again I would know how to get the correct info. She had to put me on hold for a while while she verified with her manager, but so what?

I think the key to dealing with CS...

I couldn't agree with you more, mobilephonejunkie.

After after being given a complete and total runaround and being shown the worst customer service I've seen in a long time, I'm done with Cingular. And not only that, I've made it a point to let everybody at my company know not to use them.

Next week, I switch carriers for good.

Unfortunately, that is the way the industry is going. The activation based model is ineffectual and creates sales people that cram as much as possible down people's throats and wonder why the customers get so frustrated! This is the reason why I started my own 3rd party representation company that is completely independent of carriers and does not sell phones at all! So many times I have heard the line, "What carrier do you have. (Customer says) _____ carrier and I am happy and under contract. (Sales person) well terminate and go with our program..." and then proceeds to justify converting them on the sole basis that they will make a sale regardless of cost or consequence to the customer! If you are frustrated with being dealt with this...

I also couldn't agree with you more mobilephonejunkie8. I have found that no matter what carrier store I walk into I will undoubtly know more about phones, plans, etc. than any sales person working there. I don't understand how you can work at a cell phone store and not know the phones, the plans, etc. inside and out! This is what you do 8 hours a day! You have to be in coma to be around this stuff all day long and not know everything about them. It's amazing! But I guess this is why they lie and just make stuff up. They're too embarrassed that the customer konws more than they do.

i agree that a number of employee in cingular stores do not know what they are talking about beyond what they read in the phone or rate plan brochures. but i can tell u that some of us do know what we are talking about and do not need to lie to a customer to sell a phone.
