What the heck is Cingular doing?!

by mobilephonejunkie8    Feb 17, 2005, 5:50 AM

I purchased the 650 two weeks ago and love everything about it except that my corporate IT department won't support a corporate (server based) email connection for it. They will support the 600.

I might add that when I bought the 650 it was off contract and no mention of a data plan was made.

So, really needing a small device that can get me into corporate email is very important to me and I went Saturday and again last night to buy a 600. Mind you I've purchased numerous phones this year and last from Cingular without a contract and without having to sign up for data plans. And yes, that includes pda/smart phones.

The total tools at Cingular refused to sell me the phone without a data plan. They actually had the audacity to yell at me and tell me the phone wouldn't work on the internet if I didn't upgrade my media works plan to one of their 50 dollar data plans. When I disagreed with them they got downright nasty. One guy finally admitted that Cingular recognized a hole in their plans/pricing with media works and folks that wanted to use that plan with pda-type phones.

So, I went to yet another Cingular store and picked up the 600 off contract, no data last night. No arguments, no fuss, no nothing.

I frigging hate Cingular but think I hate the employees even more because they know nothing, take no initiative to learn anything and instead of saying I don't know or being truthful will become defensive and lie. I can't tell you how many times this type of behavior has come up with these guys. I had a corporate store manager tell me I was "dumb if I believed the rumor that Cingular was going to launch a version of the BB7100" That was two days ago and guess what.. that phone is already being sold in stores and on the web.

I really try to conduct myself professionally and not get in the faces of these guys but I am finding more and more that they are real used car salesman types and their lack of knowledge about their own company and equipment astounds me.
