From the response it appears that you are using a starter phone that may have limited capabilites. You are correct on one thing, all BB are focused on Push Email, that your wife uses. This is great for my clients who need instant access to real time emails. If your emails are not time sensative, I would recommend the Palm Centro. Like the previous posts, Palm has been around for years, and there are several programs from financial calculators to my favorite Ringo for my ringtones. Plus Palm offers threated text to keep messaging simple and easy.
I seems like to made up your mind, you like the size and the price. Most places offer a 30 day exchange policy. Try out the phone, take it for a test drive and go from there.
