I guess I did not answer your question. Your mail can be Pushed to the centro. You will have to use xpressmail by AT&T or you will need to have a blackberry plan . alternately, you will need to poll for your mail. This means your email will be setup on your phone bu it will not be automatically be setn ( called Pushed) you will need to select send/receive to get your mail. If your mail is pushed you will need to subscribe to a data plan starting at about $30.00 on top of the voice plan. If you have a lot of mail, an unlimited package is your best option. If you choose to poll the mail server (you initiate the call. you control how many times your mail is received on the phone. this option works for the folks who get most of their mail sent to their home pc but occassionally have a need to pick up a mail message for right now purposes.
hope this helps. ( I would still stay away from Palm)
