NO PORT PLEASE HELP

Hey guys and girls today i spent over 8 hours trying to work on my blackberry 8830 but i had no luck there. I got all the software/programs but none of the programs can recognize my blackberry port which is com3. I tried changing my port to com1 and com2 and com4 but when i use upst on the left corner it says no phone connected that happens on any software i use. Am I missing somthing?
