Makes sense to me...

Apple controls everything. No need to worry about how to do things. Once you learn what you can do that control becomes a limitation and Andoid opens ALL the doors to controlling everything about the way you choose to use your device down to what SW you want to use to actually run the thing.
They allow non market apps and complete access to all files at the boot level like a PC.

BT file transfer - no problem
Need a a larger battery? _ no problem swap it out
Want to use a standard USB to transfer files as a mass storage device to any computer? - no problem

Want to attach an actual USB stick to the phone for file transfer? - no problem.

Want to run multiple applications at the same time without limitations up to your 1MB RAM? - no problem

Want a 2MP camera for the front for Video calling? - No problem

Want to have a choice to click on Flash enabled icons on websites and have them actually work? - no problem

I think I understand what the Co-Founder of Apple is getting at.
