What are the best way to do if you lost your iPhone?

My couzin has lost her phone somewhere he did not know. May be he left it at anywhere or during going home on train. Any advance the best things she should do?

Any chance your cousin activated Find My iPhone before she lost her iPhone?

If yes, ask her to log on to www.icloud.com. Click Find my iPhone. If the iPhone is on and connected to the Internet, you can find out the location of the iPhone.

If the device is offline, you can tick "Notify Me When Found" option.

You have three options about the lost iPhone.

First, you can "Play Sound" if the iPhone is somewhere nearby (or in the house).

Second, you can select "Lost Mode". Type a message that the person who can find it will have instruction how to return it to you. Message such as "Hey. I lost this iPhone. Please call me at this number. I am happy to give reward".

Use the Find My iPhone service to erase the privacy data on that device as it's almost impossible to get the device back

If your cousin didn't turn on Find My iPhone before your device was lost or stolen, you can't use it to locate your device. However, you can use these steps to help protect your data:
1. Change your Apple ID password. By changing your Apple ID password you can prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data or using other services (such as iMessage or iTunes) from your missing device.
2. Change the passwords for other internet accounts on your device. This could include email accounts, Facebook, or Twitter.
3. Report your lost or stolen device to local law enforcement. Law enforcement might request the serial number of your device. Find your device serial number.
4. Report your lost or stolen device to your wireless carrier. Your carrier ...

If the phone is turned off and Lost Mode is enabled, you'll receive an alert when the phone is turned back on, complete with its current location -- assuming it has some sort of data connection.
