Motorola To Offer iTunes Music Phones

Motorola and Apple tonight announced a a partnership to enable users to transfer songs from iTunes® on their PC or Mac®, including songs from the iTunes Music Store, to Motorola's upcoming mobile phones, via a USB or Bluetooth connection. Apple will create new iTunes mobile music player software, which Motorola will make the standard music application on all their mass-market music phones, expected to be available in the first half of next year.

Hopfully this is only the begining...

This guy has an interesting point of view on the potential for apple to move into the cell phone industry. I hope he's right.

I think this announcement actually precludes Apple from entering the phone market directly. They probably considered it, but decided to stick to what they're best at these days, (software,) and team with Motorola for the hardware.

Why not?

Moto has been making the main CPU for the Mac's, why not this? With hard drives shrinking to the size of a quater, it won't be long till a phone has a hard drive inside! Can you imagine a 40 Gig HD in a cell phone? 🙄
I dont' know about you, but the only reason I'd need that is to store mp3's. Of course then I'd have to equip my car with bluetooth so I could play them while charging and not kill the battery in the phone.
actually the partnership between apple moto and ibm has been dead for a while. Big blue makes the G5 and is soley to blame for the current production bottleneck.
Moto is getting out of the CPU business in terms of processors for Apple etc. The new G5 Chips are made by IBM in New York, derived from the IBM Power series of chips.

apple and motorola

I think apple is best ever for computers but motorola's are junk in my opinion. why not team up with nokia or LG far superior and more advanced than motorola, or least they work better
Probably because at the moment, Motorola is on somewhat of a spree, announcing new phones all the time, and actually getting them to market. Second, perhaps Apple is a bit sympathetic to Motorola, as the seemingly eternal 2nd placer in the wireless in...
